Ensuring confidentiality is the foundation of any remote coaching practice. Uderstanding that a clients trust is a deeply personal experience, and honoring that trust with the highest level of care. All client sessions should be conducted to protect any sensitive information where necessary - whether that is a recording or notes. In addition approaching each conversation with compassion, empathy, and nonjudgment - I know firsthand how valuable it is to feel heard without fear of exposure or shame is key. Being professional and personable while being respectful of your clients time and needs is a must. Allowing a client the ability to know they can show up as their full selves, knowing that their trust is both respected and protected.

Confidentiality is non-negotiable—especially in a remote coaching setting where digital tools are involved. I take a multi-layered approach to ensure clients feel safe and protected. I use encrypted, HIPAA-compliant platforms for video calls and messaging. I avoid using shared or unsecured devices and maintain a private, soundproof workspace at home. Second, I clarify confidentiality boundaries in our first session and revisit them periodically. Transparency builds trust. I stay updated on data privacy practices and ensure that client notes are securely stored, password-protected, and never shared without written consent. In a world where digital interactions are the norm, trust isn’t assumed—it’s earned through deliberate actions.

Ways I work with clients to keep confidentiality is to talk in person - then follow up with written communication to recap, providing the time and space to be sure those follow ups are structured to maintain that confidentiality.

In my experience, it's crucial to familiarise yourself with the GDPR procedures in lace to ensure compliance. Remote doesn't equate reduced confidentiality. Have a system in place and a legal framework to refer to when needed.
