Opera's Game-Changing Android Update: AI Image Recognition, QR Code Magic, and More

Opera for Android just received some big updates. The latest version of the web browser adds image recognition and generation abilities to its Aria AI assistant and handy tools for easier sharing and switching browsers.

Aria now includes a feature called Image Understanding that tells you about any photo you give it. Opera says the new feature will "provide context and details to satisfy your curiosity." Maybe it's a sculpture, plant, or famous building you're curious about. Instead of opening Google Maps or struggling to find the right words for a Wikipedia search, this new feature lets you take a picture of it for analysis. Also, as an added plus, Android users no longer need an account to use the AI tool.

Opera's Aria AI assistant can also now generate images on Android. It's powered by Google’s Imagen 3 Fast image generation model (the same capability is available in Gemini). The first five photos can be created without needing an account.

Another new feature for Android is QR Code Sharing. This makes it easier to share a web page since you can share the QR code instead of the URL itself. QR code generation is fast and lets anyone—both Android and iPhone users—scan the code to open the URL on their device. This is especially helpful with really long links.

The Opera browser for Android has also made it easier to switch from Chrome by enabling password importing. Paired with bookmark importing, shifting your life over to Opera is now incredibly simple. The app also lets you store and autofill saved passwords in other Android apps.

And for personalization, the Opera update for Android also introduces new Opera One-themed wallpapers and customizable theme colors.
