Forensic Interviewing Best Practices for Vulnerable Populations
August 13-14, 2025, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM each day.
This is a two-day, in-person training for first responders and law enforcement personnel. The training will be held at the N.Y.S. Justice Center's Schenectady Office located at 401 State Street, Schenectady, NY. The Webex format is being utilized for registration purposes only. By registering, you agree to attend both days of the in-person training.
Course description:
People with different disabilities may need to be interviewed in the course of law enforcement investigations. This two-day training includes an overview of the populations served under Justice Center jurisdiction, a discussion of abuse dynamics, the steps necessary to prepare for an interview with an individual with disabilities, and the stages of a successful interview. These stages include establishing rapport, cognitive and testimonial assessments, introducing the topic of concern, and consideration of alternative hypotheses.
The final day allows participants to practice these interview techniques and receive feedback.
