Empire Staff Empire Magazine Sure, firework-firing '80s hangover Jubilee could be one of the most annoying superheroes ever created, but there's more than enough bickering between Wolverine and Beast to make up for it. May 8, 2019 Full Review Matt Patches New York Magazine/Vulture An X-Men TV show could have tossed the dramatic underpinnings of the comics to the wayside in favor of superpowered action. Instead, it found a way to mesh them together. Jul 5, 2018 Full Review David Anthony AV Club The show would continually tackle social and political issues throughout its five seasons, seeing its colorful team of mutants take on everything from intolerance and race to AIDS and religion, all filtered through the lens of the eclectic superhero team. Jul 3, 2018 Full Review David Hogan hoganreviews.co.uk X-Men’s first season establishes the team well alongside the anti-racism message that the comics boasted from the start. ... It’s no wonder I loved this show as a kid, I still really enjoyed watching it now! Rated: 4/5 Aug 20, 2023 Full Review Peter Sciretta Slashfilm X-men quickly became my favorite series and the X-Men animated series on Fox brought the issues to life in ways I had never before imagined. Jul 9, 2018 Full Review Liana Minassian Screen Rant It was a superhero show in all senses of the definition, and one that inspired the creation of many others during the '90s and '00s. Pedro Henrique C Great season lots of action the way I like it a lot Vampira is a show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Andrew S A master class of animation and story telling. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Igor S This is a classic! If you are watching it today, you might feel like it's outdated in many ways, but if you had been there in the 90's while this was running, this would have been some of the best time you would have had in your childhood. I can also safely say: best intro for any animated show, EVER! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review julian p I don't watch much Marvel animated shows I only watch live action but I gave this show a shot and it blew me away I have not seen a 90s animated show better than X-Men. Action is perfect for every possible reason not only for this season but for the others as well for obvious reasons. Voice Acting is perfect for every reason in the history of reasons. Animation is perfect for the 90s literally perfect. Villains, all villains in this show are perfect Magneto, Apocalypse, the Sentinels, Sabretooth, etc. Writing is also perfect for all seasons. Story is just perfect because it really sets up the 90s X-Men shows story line and got us interested into the show. Characters are all perfect with no explanation needed. Adventure is also perfect. Mystery is perfect because it'll always get you to wonder what happens next and will also hook you on to the show. Ending is perfect to because it leads to season 2. This is such an amazing season and such an amazing show to and the cliffhanger at season 5 should have lead to a season 6 but unfortunately there wasn't. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/23 Full Review martin f X-men won't be what you expect as a new viewer, each two or three episodes complete their own storyline, and things go fast here. Every scene has a goal in the current episode's storyline. In a way, it's a good thing, despite only 13 episodes, the stories show a surprising variety of places, enemies, characters, and themes. On the other side, sometimes it feels like you are missing something, like proper introductions. For example, Apocalypse suddenly first appears behind a door. I think they are better ways to introduce what it's meant to be the most powerful antagonist. In the end, it really feels like reading the comic but without the narration. Speaking of that, X-men made a great job to adapt famous story arcs from, at the time, 30 years of comics while keeping a coherent cast and overarching story. Also, such an awesome opening!
