In the run-up to the next Cloud Expo, 7th Cloud Expo (November 1–4, 2010) being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley, it's time to give my earlier list a complete overhaul. Why Are There No Clouds Yet in Turkey?

Cem Sertoglu's Blog I get pitched by a large number of Turkish internet startups, and none of them, not one, so far, have built their application using cloud computing. I wonder why that is. It seems to me that the cloud computing service providers like Google App Engine, AWS and 10gen, offer a solid, scalable solution. On top of this, all of the non-cloud Turkish alternatives are more expensive than their US counterparts. Cisco to Present at Cloud Computing Conference & Expo

David Bernstein, Vice-President and General Manager of Cloud Computing at Cisco, will be presenting at SYS-CON's 2nd International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo in New York City this coming March 30-April 1, 2009. Zuora Seeks Cloud's Silver Lining

Zuora, the Marc Benioff-backed on-demand billing and payments start-up, has announced what it calls the Z-Commerce Platform, a development platform dedicated to monetizing cloud computing services. Zuora CEO Tien Tzuo describes the widgetry as the start-up’s most important product announcement to date, “a big step towards our vision of being the de facto commerce engine for the cloud.” With Z-Billing, Z-Payments, and Z-Force, its existing products, the company’s supposed to have a suite of business cloud solutions focused on driving revenue from cloud computing. It figures there’s huge market potential for a provider of cloud-based commerce capabilities such as subscription billing and payments given predictions like Merrill Lynch’s that puts the addressable market for cloud computing at $160 billion, including $95 billion in business and productivity applications.... A Standardized Cloud Performance Rating System

Ever get one of those random phone calls in the midst of your work day that makes you think, huh -- interesting idea? Well earlier today I had one from a guy looking to learn more about cloud computing platforms. Although it ended up he wasn't specifically looking for an elastic computing platform, he did ask a few very thought provoking questions. What he asked was if there is a simple way to compare the performance, security and quality of various cloud computing providers? He went on to say that when comparing traditional hardware vendors it was easy for him to understand the standardized specifications (GHZ, GB, etc) as well as determine quality based on brand recognition, but in the cloud world there was no easy way for him to compare "apples to apples".
