My dad is a DBA. However, he doesn't design large databases, he doesn't write
extremely elaborate multiselect SQLs (I don't think he's ever read a Joe
Celko book), and he certainly doesn't care about the latest, greatest news in
the world of technology. He's been at the same place for about 15 years , is
respected by his co-workers, and makes sure that the rest of his organization
gets the information necessary to get their jobs done.
I have another friend who is a programmer. She works with Visual Studio,
cranks out form-based apps that attach to data, and basically helps build
client/server apps for her organization. The apps she builds are used by lots
of people in her organization, thereby she provides value an... (more)
"It's not easy to see why IBM would want to buy Sun," writes Javalobby
founder Rick Ross in his latest discussion of the vexed question: who, if Sun
were bought, would get Java?
The discussion has been fueled both by last week's Kodak decision which has
found Java to be in breach of certain copyrights held by Eastman Kodak Co.,
and this week's Oracle-PeopleSoft shenanigans, with a takeover of the latter
by the former looking increasingly likely by the day.
But if not IBM, then who?
"A more likely name that often surfaces would be Japanese giant, Fujitsu,
which is already Sun's largest reseller," Ross continues, then adds: "A
far-fetched, but interesting and exciting, scenario could be one in which a
third party would partner with Fujitsu to acquire Sun."
Ross's reasoning behind discounting IBM as a potential "white knight" for
Java is as follows. He argues that IBM... (more)

Social Analytics: This analytics allow marketers to identify sentiment and
identify trends in order to accommodate the customer better. Activity
Streams: Activity Streams are the future of enterprise collaboration, uniting
people, data, and applications in real-time in a central, accessible, virtual
interface. Think of a company social network where every employee, system,
and business process exchanged up-to-the-minute information about their
