PathCentral Appoints Noted Pathologist David Frishberg, M.D., Chief Medical Advisor for its Online Digital Pathology Network

PathCentral (www.pathcentral.net), a technology-enabled company dedicated to the success of the pathology community, today announced the appointment of pathologist David Frishberg, M.D., as Chief Medical Advisor for PathCentral and its Professional Network (www.pathcentralpro.net), the company’s comprehensive online information exchange and digital consultation forum.

The PathCentral Professional Network represents the industry’s first open, web-based platform, harnessing all the technologies of digital imaging, social media, and laboratory information system functionality under one virtual roof.

Dr. Frishberg, who also serves as Vice Chair and Director of Anatomic Pathology for the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is a highly regarded pathology field expert, category thought leader, and proponent of digital pathology consultation. As Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Frishberg will guide the PathCentral Professional Network team in developing pathology consultant relationships to fulfill the diagnostic needs of hospitals, physicians, CROs, and reference labs worldwide by linking them with expert pathologists at leading U.S. medical institutions. He will also oversee PathCentral’s training and monitoring program to ensure efficacy and safety of the digital pathology platform.

In addition to his role as Vice Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Frishberg has served as that organization’s Cancer Committee Chair, Surgical Pathology and Dermatopathology Director, as well as directed the academic Fellowships in Gastrointestinal Pathology and Surgical Pathology. His background includes senior leadership position at top hospitals and laboratories in the U.S., including service as Chief of Anatomic Pathology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and Chief of Pathology for the Lifebridge Health System in Baltimore. He has served as a diagnostic consultant at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Quest Diagnostics, and Labcorp.

Dr. Frishberg is boarded in Anatomic, Clinical, and Dermatopathology, and currently actively practices Dermatopathology, Cytopathology, and Thyroid Pathology. He has served on a large number of advisory committees, including the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Surgical Pathology Committee (Vice Chair), CAP Cancer Committee (Lead, Skin Cancer Advisory Committee), American Joint Committee on Cancer, CAP Digital Demonstration Project, and CAP Digital Work Group. Frishberg served as Lead Editor of the CAP’s Surgical Pathology Committee when the CAP employed its first digital pathology education in surgical pathology. He has also been active in promoting regional pathologist education, most recently as President of the Los Angeles Society of Pathologists.

“We are thrilled to have a pathologist of David’s caliber spearheading our effort to expand and deepen our relationships with leading hospitals and other top medical institutions,” said Jaye Connolly, CEO of PathCentral. “As our new Chief Medical Advisor, David will also play a key role in acting as a thought leader and beacon for digital pathology nationally and internationally.”

“PathCentral is dedicated to advancing remote diagnostics and case sharing capabilities within digital pathology,” said Dr. Frishberg. “I look forward to playing what I hope will be a pivotal role in helping to raise the level of care provided to patients by connecting increasing access to pathologist experts through digital consultation. Remote diagnostics holds enormous potential for the pathology field and for populations that pathologists want and need to serve.”

The PathCentral Professional Network enables physicians to upload case files using digital images for pathologists to review and render critical consulting diagnoses on both a global and a domestic real-time basis. In terms of scanning technology and imaging software, the Network is agnostic and designed to be non-exclusive – that is, open to all users regardless of location or consulting institution. As the pathology specialty’s most comprehensive online global forum, the PathCentral Professional Network also seeks to connect the world’s pathologists, incorporating tools from social media, making it an ideal forum for pathologists to send and perform consults, create connections, post information, share cases, ask questions, and expand professional relationships.

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...
If a machine can invent, does this mean the end of the patent system as we know it? The patent system, both in the US and Europe, allows companies to protect their inventions and helps foster innovation. However, Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be set to disrupt the patent system as we know it. This talk will examine how AI may change the patent landscape in the years to come. Furthermore, ways in which companies can best protect their AI related inventions will be examined from both a US and...
Enterprises have taken advantage of IoT to achieve important revenue and cost advantages. What is less apparent is how incumbent enterprises operating at scale have, following success with IoT, built analytic, operations management and software development capabilities - ranging from autonomous vehicles to manageable robotics installations. They have embraced these capabilities as if they were Silicon Valley startups.
The Internet of Things will challenge the status quo of how IT and development organizations operate. Or will it? Certainly the fog layer of IoT requires special insights about data ontology, security and transactional integrity. But the developmental challenges are the same: People, Process and Platform and how we integrate our thinking to solve complicated problems. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Craig Sproule, CEO of Metavine, demonstrated how to move beyond today's coding paradigm and sh...

The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Compute comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always a catching-up with the capacity demands. Processing power in smartphones has enhanced YoY and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Uber has successfully ...
Cloud computing delivers on-demand resources that provide businesses with flexibility and cost-savings. The challenge in moving workloads to the cloud has been the cost and complexity of ensuring the initial and ongoing security and regulatory (PCI, HIPAA, FFIEC) compliance across private and public clouds. Manual security compliance is slow, prone to human error, and represents over 50% of the cost of managing cloud applications. Determining how to automate cloud security compliance is critical...
As IoT continues to increase momentum, so does the associated risk. Secure Device Lifecycle Management (DLM) is ranked as one of the most important technology areas of IoT. Driving this trend is the realization that secure support for IoT devices provides companies the ability to deliver high-quality, reliable, secure offerings faster, create new revenue streams, and reduce support costs, all while building a competitive advantage in their markets. In this session, we will use customer use cases...
