2020. This number will continue to grow at a rapid pace for the next several
decades.
With major technology companies and startups seriously embracing IoT

Systems of Innovation for Ongoing Digital Transformation
Information technology (IT) advances are transforming the way we innovate in
business, thereby disrupting the old guard and their predictable status-quo.
It’s creating global market turbulence. Industries are converging, and new
opportunities and threats are emerging, like never before.
So, how are savvy chief information officers (CIOs) leading this transition?
Back in 2015, the IBM Institute for Business Value conducted a market study
that included the findings from over 1,800 CIO interviews from around the
globe. The resulting insights are worthy of revisiting today, as we consider
the digital business transformation outlook in 2017.
Introduction to the Torchbearer CIO
CIOs realize the barriers between formerly distinct industries are
collapsing, as organizations in one sector apply their expertise to others ... (more)
During the interview recorded earlier this year Hsieh divulges innovations he
has made to Zappos to grow the business from nearly no sales in 1999 to over
$1Billion in gross merchandise sales in 2008. Hseih states ‘The number one
driver of that growth has been through repeat customers and word of mouth.’
He also shares his secrets to improving company culture through recruitment
and to his Marketing Strategies. ‘Most of the money that we would of spent
on paid advertising we put into the customer experience......Any costs that
we put into investing in the customer experience ends up driving that repeat
customer behavior and word of mouth, so we think of it as an in direct
marketing cost’. And he clearly was on the right track as Amazon digs deep
to increase market share.

In the run-up to the next Cloud Expo, 7th Cloud Expo (November 1–4, 2010)
being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley, it's time
to give my earlier list a complete overhaul.
Here, accordingly, is an expanded list of the most active players in the
Cloud Ecosystem.
I have increased it from the 'mere' 150 I identified back in January of this
year, to 250, testimony – as if any were needed! – to the fierce and
continuing growth of the "Elastic IT" paradigm throughout the world of
enterprise computing.
Editorial note: The words in quotation marks used to describe the various
services and solutions in this round-up are in every case taken from the Web
sites of the companies themselves. Omissions to this Top 250 list should be
sent to me via Twitter (twitter.com/jg21) and I will endeavor to include them
in any future revision of this newly expanded rou... (more)

Project members are working to take the scalability and openness of the web
and use it to talk to the exponentially exploding range of smart devices.

years. He was the first member of the User Interface group at Apple in the
late 80s, working on System 7, the Apple Human Interface Guidelines and the

Like so many of the ideas that tumble out of the Googleplex into the public
domain, Google Trends is irresistible. SYS-CON group publisher and editorial
director Jeremy Geelan puts the application, newly taken out of beta and now
available to all cyberspace from the Google main page, through its paces by
taking it out for a giddy spin around the i-Technology world. The results are

encapsulates the aspect of Google Trends that makes it addictive. Like

Flash storage array start-up Violin Memory is storing up greenbacks.
According to an amended SEC filing made late last week it's gotten $96.3
million out of what may become $130 million in new funding.
All Things Digital reports hearing the financing was done at an implied
valuation of $850 million to fund operations ahead of a delayed IPO that was
supposed to come off late last year and is now supposedly targeted for early
May. Granted that seems an awful lot of money for just a few months.
Violin reportedly filed to go public under that newfangled Jumpstart Our
Business Startups Act that lets companies keep their financials hush-hush
until close to going public.
As of last April Violin had raised $172 million, money that came from Juniper
Networks, Toshiba, SAP Ventures, Highland Capital and GE Capital.
The new money reportedly comes from a flock of 126 private inve... (more)
Personal Branding on Ulitzer
I read an article by an author on Ulitzer.com and was amazed at the
professional image it provided him. I immediately researched Ulitzer to see
if there was yet hope for me.
I am a technology blogger on the subject of mobile computing strategies. As
I was doing research I came across the author Ian Thain, a fellow mobile
computing blogger, who had a very professional website on Ulitzer
(www.ulitzer.com).
Professional envy motivated me to investigate this thing called Ulitzer.
Ian's website looked like he had spent a great deal of time and money on it -
all things I am short on.
I carefully studied Ian's website to see how it was set up. It looked like
an expensive industry portal with colorful graphics, animation and industry
news.
It had tabs that filtered articles, by most popular, by date, etc. I have
blogged for over 5 years so... (more)
