There is a war a-brewin’, but this war will be fought with wits and not
brute strength. Ever since Russian President Vladimir Putin’s declaration
that “the nation that leads in AI (Artificial Intelligence) will be the
ruler of the world,” the press and analysts have created hysteria regarding
the ramifications of artificial intelligence on everything from public
education to unemployment to healthcare to Skynet.
Note: artificial intelligence (AI) endows applications with the ability to
automatically learn and adapt from experience via interacting with the
surroundings / environment. See the blog “Artificial Intelligence is not
Fake Intelligence” for a more detailed explanation on artificial
intelligence and machine learning.

A strong declaration from a historically antagonist foe should put chills in
the hearts of Americans preparing themselves for the world ahead: Russian
President Vladimir Putin says the nation that leads in AI will be the ruler
of the world [1]” … The ruler of the world!
From the article (with some modification to avoid political landmines), we
get the following:
“The development of artificial intelligence has increasingly become a
national security concern in recent years. It is China and the US (not
Russia), which are seen as the two frontrunners, with China recently
announcing its ambition to become the global leader in AI research by 2030.
Many analysts warn that America is in danger of falling behind, especially as
the [current US] administration prepares to cut funding for basic science and
technology research.”

Blockchain for Business
Blockchain is a shared, secure record of exchange that establishes trust,
accountability and transparency across business networks. Supported by the
Linux Foundation's open source, open-standards based Hyperledger Project,
Blockchain has the potential to improve regulatory compliance, reduce cost as
well as advance trade. Are you curious about how Blockchain is built for
business?

So data warehousing may not be cool anymore, you say? It’s yesterday’s
technology (or 1990’s technology if you’re as old as me) that served
yesterday’s business needs. And while it’s true that recent big data and
data science technologies, architectures and methodologies seems to have
rendered data warehousing to the back burner, it is entirely false that there
is not a critical role for the data warehouse and Business Intelligence in
digitally transformed organizations.
Maybe the best way to understand today’s role of the data warehouse is with
a bit of history. And please excuse us if we take a bit of liberty with
history (since we were there for most of this!).

The Five Key Elements to Build, Deploy and Operationalize Artificial
Intelligence at Scale
The question before companies today is not whether to become intelligent,
it's a question of how and how fast. The key is to adopt and deploy an
intelligent application strategy while simultaneously preparing to scale that
intelligence.

End-to-End on the GPU: How to Vastly Parallel SQL, Visualization and Machine
Learning
Companies are harnessing data in ways we once associated with science
fiction. Analysts have access to a plethora of visualization and reporting
tools, but considering the vast amount of data businesses collect and
limitations of CPUs, end users are forced to design their structures and
systems with limitations.

to user experience, and how this technology is producing measurable,

In 1977, the Eagles released "Hotel California", a song about drugs and the
effects an addiction has on people. Putting "We are all just prisoners here,
of our own device" in the context of our digital lifestyle today we find a
lot of truth. There is a reason why Google provides most of its services for
free or why Amazon wants us to have an Echo in every home or why Facebook has
become our directory of "friends." What looks pretty convenient is a threat.
It is a threat to the end consumers but also a threat to the established
economy. And even if we have the choice to check out any time - we will never
leave.

The year 2018 is going to be an exciting one for the Internet of Things
(IoT). Many areas, including healthcare, automotive, smart cities,
usage-based insurance and asset management, will see more interesting
projects take off successfully around the world and in India. Increasing
realisation of the value that IoT brings together with the faster adoption of
connected electronics has pushed IoT to create a business transformation
narrative like never before.
1. The IoT Will Grow: In what might be the most obvious prediction of the
decade, the IoT will continue to expand next year, with more and more devices
coming online every single day. What isn’t so obvious about this
prediction: where that growth will occur. The retail, healthcare, and
industrial/supply chain industries will likely see the greatest growth.

Fingerspitzengefühl: A German word used to describe the ability to maintain
attention to detail in an ever-changing operational and tactical environment
by maintaining real-time situational awareness. The term is synonymous with
the English expression of "keeping one's finger on the pulse". The problem
with fingerspitzengefühl traditionally, in addition to pronouncing it, has
been it is hard for an individual to scale up. Today that is changing. In a
world of sensors, AI and mobile devices, having real-time situational
awareness is far easier than ever before. In fact, today the challenge is
not how to do it, but what to do with the massive volume of data that can be
provided.
Data comes from many different sources, especially considering field services
where work is often mobile, remote and dynamic. If more data can be
captured and added to a typical GPS coordi... (more)

Feb. 12, 2018 02:30 PM EST Reads: 498 | By Elizabeth White When shopping for a new data processing platform for IoT solutions, many development teams want to be able to test-drive options before making a choice. Yet when evaluating an IoT solution, it’s simply not feasible to do so at scale with physical devices. Building a sensor simulator is the next best choice; however, generating a realistic simulation at very high TPS with ease of configurability is a formidable challenge. When dealing with multiple application or transport protocols, you would be...
