that included the findings from over 1,800 CIO interviews from around the
globe. The resulting insights are worthy of revisiting today, as we consider
the digital business transformation outlook in 2017.

From the outside looking in on the so-called "trial of the century" - and
bearing in mind that it's only maybe halfway through - but Samsung looks
royally screwed.
It should have paid more attention when Google told it in 2010 that its
tablets looked too much like iPads and should be made "noticeably different."
Apple's got the Samsung e-mail saying so.
It's also got top designers' formal evaluations telling Samsung the same
thing about its phones.
And better yet it's got a seemingly damning 132-page "Relative Evaluation
Report" - that Apple got admitted into evidence Tuesday over Samsung's
strenuous objections - showing the Korean company's product engineering team
dissecting every element of the iPhone in 2010 from packaging design to
physical appearance to user interface to operating system architecture to

Azure Resource Manager: The Shift from Services to Resources
In the first part of this series, we discussed the evolution of Azure IaaS
and role of Azure Resource Manager. The next installment of the series
explains the key differences between Azure Service Management (ASM) and Azure
Resource Management (ARM) models. We will also take a look at key concepts
and terminology related to ARM.
ASM or ARM?
One of the key tenets of cloud, especially infrastructure services, is
programmability. Almost every cloud provider exposes a set of APIs to
manipulate the virtual infrastructure programmatically. Even before the Cloud
Computing term became a buzzword, Amazon exposed APIs for storage and
compute, which eventually became the core of AWS.
When Microsoft built Azure, developers could interact with the control plane
through the Azure Service Management (ASM) API. Before off... (more)
When the speakers on the .NET track of SYS-CON's Web Services Edge 2005
East conference got together, Carl Franklin and I were talking about why
people think that C# is the "official language" for .NET.
I told Carl that, even though most of my consulting is in C#, I think that
attitude is wrong. I believe it is important to elaborate why I feel this
way.
People who feel that VB.NET is an inferior language to C#, or that somehow C#
is a "better language", or the "official language" for accessing the .NET
Framework Class Library are just plain wrong. My personal opinion is that I
prefer C# to VB.NET because I like the compact syntax among other things, but
that is a personal judgement.
People who talk that way about VB.NET are confusing three issues.
First, suitability to access the Framework Class Library (FCL). Every example

Feb. 8, 2018 05:15 AM EST Reads: 2,107 | By Pat Romanski In this strange new world where more and more power is drawn from business technology, companies are effectively straddling two paths on the road to innovation and transformation into digital enterprises. The first path is the heritage trail – with “legacy” technology forming the background. Here, extant technologies are transformed by core IT teams to provide more API-driven approaches. Legacy systems can restrict companies that are transitioning into digital enterprises. To truly become a lead... Feb. 8, 2018 12:00 AM EST Reads: 9,305 | By Otto Berkes Every year about this time, we gaze into crystal balls to divine the future of our industry – or at least where it’s headed over the next 365 days. The result is often a triumph of incrementalism: we predict that we will get more of what we already have. The truth is, technology isn’t as revolutionary as we often think – and commenting on incremental changes alone may not help us understand what lies ahead.
Along with a few near-term predictions – so hard to resist – I’d also like to make some ... To achieve cloud-based HPC visualization, researchers must transfer datasets and visualization results efficiently.
HPC clusters now compute GPU-accelerated visualization in the cloud cluster. To efficiently display results remotely, a high-performance, low-latency protocol transfers the display from the cluster to a remote desktop. Further, tools to easily mount remote datasets and efficiently transfer... Feb. 7, 2018 05:00 AM EST Reads: 2,584 | By Liz McMillan Digital Transformation (DX) is not a "one-size-fits all" strategy. Each organization needs to develop its own unique, long-term DX plan. It must do so by realizing that we now live in a data-driven age, and that technologies such as Cloud Computing, Big Data, the IoT, Cognitive Computing, and Blockchain are only tools. In her general session at 21st Cloud Expo, Rebecca Wanta explained how the strategy must focus on DX and include a commitment from top management to create great IT jobs, monitor ... Feb. 6, 2018 01:45 PM EST Reads: 2,829 | By Stackify Blog The word polymorphism is used in various contexts and describes situations in which something occurs in several different forms. In computer science, it describes the concept that objects of different types can be accessed through the same interface. Each type can provide its own, independent implementation of this interface. It is one of the core concepts of object-oriented programming (OOP). Feb. 6, 2018 12:00 PM EST Reads: 2,071 | By Elizabeth White Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder.
Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. Thi... Feb. 6, 2018 06:30 AM EST Reads: 2,488 | By Stackify Blog Let's do a visualization exercise. Feb. 5, 2018 12:30 PM EST Reads: 4,770 | By Rostyslav Demush A few years ago – in the early days of Blockchain – a lot of people were taken with the idea of a multifunctional chain on which all transactions could be handled.
