I'm told that it has been 21 years since Scrum became public when Jeff
Sutherland and I presented it at an Object-Oriented Programming, Systems,
Languages & Applications (OOPSLA) workshop in Austin, TX, in October of 1995.
Time sure does fly. Things mature. I'm still in the same building and at the
same company where I first formulated Scrum.[1] Initially nobody knew of
Scrum, yet it is now an open source body of knowledge translated into more
than 30 languages.[2] People use Scrum worldwide for developing software and
other uses I never anticipated.[3]
Scrum was born and initially used by Jeff and me to meet market demand at our
respective companies. After we made Scrum public in 1996 and writing my paper
SCRUM Development Process, we started trying Scrum publicly, in companies
with critical needs that were willing to try anything. The first organization

Oracle Keynote at Cloud Expo
Cloud Computing News - Oracle co-president Charles Phillips was supposed to
become CEO of CA - for all its muddied skirts still one of the world's
largest software companies - and then those "soul mates forever" billboards
popped up in New York, Atlanta and San Francisco, exposing his near
decade-long bi-coastal double life with wife and son in the East and a
live-in girlfriend in the West.
Six days after Phillips was forced to admit that a picture of him and his
ex-girlfriend canoodling was hanging over Times Square, CA named board member

the company since John Swainson's reportedly forced retirement was announced
in September. An ex-IBMer and an ex-Swainson pal, it was no secret he really
wanted the job.

My first read through a post on the Cloud Front Office led me to scoff
disdainfully at the re-emergence of a concept central to a successful SOA
implementation: the service catalog. Oh, we called it "registry" and then
"registry/repository (reg/rep)" and finally "governance" but the concept
behind it was exactly the same. Take a gander at the description of a cloud
service catalog apparently growing out of discussions that began at Structure
09:
Last week I attended Structure 09, one of the better cloud computing
conferences. Everyone I could hear the echo of the need for a service
catalog; often it was implicit.
For example, everyone spoke about the need for standardization and
multi-tenancy, about the need to abstract computing resources from the
application to enable moving workloads as needed. Which in my mind requires
you to a) know what the workload is, b) ... (more)
