How to Become the "Most Popular" @CloudExpo, @ThingsExpo and @DevOpsSummit Speaker
With 10 simultaneous tracks, keynotes, general sessions and targeted breakout classes, Cloud Expo and @ThingsExpo are two of the most important technology events of the year. Since its launch over eight years ago, Cloud Expo and @ThingsExpo have presented a rock star faculty as well as showcased hundreds of sponsors and exhibitors!
In this blog post, I provide 7 tips on how, as part of our world-class faculty, you can deliver one of the most popular sessions at our events. But before reading these essential tips, please take a moment and watch this brief video from Sandy Carter.
"Cloud Expo was really the event to connect with thought leaders, innovators, business folks who are interested in what the cloud can bring to their business. You know really how it allows them to bring the transformation of the business process."
Sandy Carter, IBM's General Manager for the Cloud Ecosystem and Developers
1) Submit your session proposal well in advance
The "call for papers" for our next conference is already open. Our conference editorial board evaluates and accepts speaking proposals daily from experienced and well-respected speakers who are experts in their areas of presentation. Accepted session abstracts are published as part of the daily conference news and shared with the industry.
2) Select your session title and content carefully
It's not always sufficient to be highly knowledgeable and well known in your area of expertise. Your topic and session content are very important if you want to speak to a full room with standing room only as the attendees are eager to hear what you have to say. At our past events we have seen celebrity speakers talking to empty rooms, while a first-time presenter attracts crowds in the next hall. Think about what conference delegates want to learn in new and cutting-edge technologies and topics while working on your session abstract and talk.
3) Take your time and update your slide deck
It's easy to fly around from one conference to another with a stale slide deck. Delegates know what they want to learn and they pay attention to these details. Take your time and improve the content of your presentation if you are one of these speakers. Don't forget, in your time slot you are competing with nine other speakers and their presentations.
4) Avoid product pitches
We do not accept product pitches as our conference talks. Our delegates are there to learn about skills, techniques and technologies. They generally skip any session that looks like a product pitch. Keep your slide deck for your company's user conference.
5) Create a SYS-CON author blog and publish expert content
This is a big secret of success for our 10,000 plus SYS-CON authors. If you are not already a SYS-CON author, create your author page today; it only takes a few minutes. If you already have a blog page, you can easily publish your blog feed at our conference blog pages. For help, please contact us at events (at) sys-con.com.
Lori MacVittie blog: 4.2 million reads http://lorimacvittie.sys-con.com
Jason Bloomberg blog: 1.2 million reads http://jasonbloomberg.sys-con.com
6) Provide us with your session slides after your presentation
After the conference, we publish stories that summarize your presentation and share it with our readers and conference delegates. These stories typically get thousands of reads, expanding and magnifying your reach around the world.
7) Share your session content on Twitter before and after the conference
Your audience and our delegates are the most active Twitter users in any industry. Tweet about your session often; we share your tweets with over 100,000 of our followers to get your word out.
Last but not least, don't be a "no show" at your scheduled presentation. At every event, one or two speakers will miss their presentation without advance notice. These speakers or others from their companies are not invited to future events as we wish to avoid this situation occurring again.
20th International Cloud Expo, taking place June 6-8, 2017, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY, will feature technical sessions from a rock star conference faculty and the leading industry players in the world.
Cloud computing is now being embraced by a majority of enterprises of all sizes. Yesterday's debate about public vs. private has transformed into the reality of hybrid cloud: a recent survey shows that 74% of enterprises have a hybrid cloud strategy. Meanwhile, 94% of enterprises are using some form of XaaS - software, platform, and infrastructure as a service.
