Top Docker Influencers to Follow
By Alois Mayr
Container technology is the killer app when it comes to building and running microservices architectures. There are a countless number of articles, events, and resources out there related to the hot topics of containers, microservices, and DevOps. Docker is a player in the container market that has great momentum behind it at the moment—they recently raised $95M in a Series D funding round.
Following is my list of favorite Docker influencers and their resources as relates to containers. There is deliberately no ranking in this list:

Jérôme Petazzoni – @jpetazzo – Tinkerer Extraordinaire at Docker
Jérôme is a frequent speaker at conferences and that’s probably why he calls himself a “traveling salesman.” He’s a DevOps enthusiast who evangelizes Docker to people around the world. Check out his slide decks and articles:
James Turnbull – @kartar – VP of Engineering at Kickstarter, Advisor at Docker
James frequently tweets about what’s going on around Docker, as well as at Kickstarter meetups and campaigns. He wrote and published the Docker book. One of his newest projects is a book about The Art of Monitoring.
Check out his Docker related publications:
Jessie Frazelle – @frazelledazzell – Core developer at Docker
Follow Jessie and you’ll stay up to date with Docker. She speaks at conferences and makes cool stuff with Docker. Follow her at GitHub and DockerHub.
Adrian Cockcroft – @adrianco – Technology Fellow at Battery Ventures
He is a former Cloud Architect who helped Netflix become a large scale, highly available platform. So he has high expertise in microservices and cloud technologies. Now he is Technical Fellow at Battery Ventures and keeps sharing interesting stuff related to DevOps, containers, and cloud related technologies. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences.
Alex Polvi – @polvi – CEO at CoreOS
Alex was with Rackspace and now he is CEO at CoreOS. He is expert in cloud computing and security. With CoreOS he is boosting server security by improving the ability to update servers using containers.
Werner Vogels – @werner – CTO at Amazon
Werner is CTO at Amazon. He’s responsible for driving the technology vision of Amazon. He blogs about “building scalable and robust distributed systems.” He is also a frequent speaker at AWS related conferences and events, like AWS re:invent and AWS Summits.
John Willis – @botchagalupe – Founder of SocketPlane (acquired by Docker)
John is author of many Docker blog posts and founded a company around software defined networks for native Docker environments. He regularly tweets about microservices, Docker, and related technologies. He also writes about DevOps, organizational change, and burnout. John co-authored the DevOps Cookbook.
Gene Kim – @RealGeneKim – Founder, CTO, Author, Researcher
Gene has been a DevOps enthusiast from the beginning and shares advice on how to create high performing IT organizations. He (co-)authored a couple of books, including the Phoenix Project book, and he currently contributes to the DevOps Cookbook. His Twitter timeline is crowded with DevOps and Ops stuff, but also includes information about Docker.
Ben Kepes – @benkepes – Writer and contributor at Forbes
Ben writes about tech, IT, and cloud computing and posts tons of information on Twitter. Many posts are related to business analysis and funding. He is also a business advisor, investor, and technology evangelist.
James Governor – @monkchips – Co-founder of RedMonk and industry analyst
James writes about people and technology. Thousands of people follow him on Twitter. His company @shoreditchworks offers coworking space for tech startups that also regularly shares container-related insights.
Peter Roßbach – @prossbach – JavaEE coach and CEO, bee42 solutions
Peter is a contributor to the Apache Tomcat project and a frequent speaker at conferences. In his talks he evangelizes microservices running in dockerized Tomcats. He also frequently holds Docker workshops in Germany. His Twitter timeline explores Docker related news.
There are many others worth mentioning here. Feel free to comment and propose other influencers for inclusion in this list.

The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things’). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing? IoT is not about the devices, it’s about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits.
