Oracle Asks EC’s Blessing

The EC has until September 3 to decide

Oracle sent its Sun acquisition papers to the European Commission seeking approval of the merger and the EC has until September 3 to decide to allow it or make Oracle's life miserable.

The regulator is already asking third parties a lot of questions about MySQL and whether, for instance, InnoDB, the MySQL storage engine that Oracle bought in 2005, has prospered since the acquisition.

American authorities wanted information about Java licensing, a second request for information that Oracle swears won't stop it from closing on the deal by August 31.

Meanwhile, Microsoft and Yahoo filed their papers with U.S. authorities and maybe the EC this week. Google is expected to roil those waters.
