The CMP 2.0: Bringing Automation, Orchestration and Governance to Cloud
Native Apps and DevOps
As many know, the first generation of Cloud Management Platform (CMP)
solutions were designed for managing virtual infrastructure (IaaS) and
traditional applications. But that's no longer enough to satisfy evolving and
complex business requirements.
Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here
In his session at 21st Cloud Expo, Scott Davis, Embotics CTO, explored how
next-generation CMPs ensure organizations can manage cloud-native and
microservice-based application architectures, while also facilitating agile
DevOps methodology. He explained how automation, orchestration and governance
are fundamental to managing today's hybrid cloud environments and are
critical for digital businesses to deliver services faster, with better user ... (more)

Taking a Data First Approach to Real Time Applications
To get the most out of their data, successful companies are not focusing on
queries and data lakes, they are actively integrating analytics into their
operations with a data-first application development approach. Real-time
adjustments to improve revenues, reduce costs, or mitigate risk rely on
applications that minimize latency on a variety of data sources.

In his session at @BigDataExpo, Jack Norris, Senior Vice President, Data and
Applications at MapR Technologies, reviewed best practices to show how
companies develop, deploy, and dynamically update these applications and how
this data-first approach is fundamentally different from traditional
applications. He covered examples of how leading companies have identified

The goal of Microservices is to improve software delivery speed and increase
system safety as scale increases. Microservices being modular these are
faster to change and enables an evolutionary architecture where systems can
change, as the business needs change. Microservices can scale elastically and
by being service oriented can enable APIs natively. Microservices also reduce
implementation and release cycle time and enables continuous delivery. This
paper provides a logical overview of the Microservices Reference Architecture
that highlights various sub systems needed to support Microservices
deployment and execution.
Introduction
Switch over to Microservices is an hour of need in web application
development and delivery and is crucial for the success of Enterprises today.
Of late, enterprises are adopting technologies like analytics, mobility,

Continuous Delivery Is Better for Your Brain
Continuous Delivery makes it possible to exploit findings of cognitive
psychology and neuroscience to increase the productivity and happiness of our
teams.
In his session at 22nd Cloud Expo | DXWorld Expo, Daniel Jones, CTO of
EngineerBetter, will answer:
How can we improve willpower and decrease technical debt? Is the present bias
real? How can we turn it to our advantage? Can you increase a team's
effective IQ? How do DevOps & Product Teams increase empathy, and what impact
does empathy have on productivity?
The OECD is puzzled over missing productivity. Are we failing to exploit the
benefits of modern technology by running our software businesses and teams as
if they're post-war factories, rather than continuously delivering?

Getting Public Cloud Benefits Without Public Cloud Drawbacks
You know you need the cloud, but you're hesitant to simply dump everything at
Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know
that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with
public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the
public cloud a non-starter. You're looking at private cloud solutions based
on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you're concerned with the limits
inherent in those technologies.
What do you do?
Private cloud infrastructure based on composable technologies result in
environments that are suitable for all your workloads while also providing
you with many of the benefits of the public cloud, and without the pitfalls.
Composable infrastructure is an emerging data center architectur... (more)

In a recent post, titled "10 Surprising Facts About Cloud Computing and What
It Really Is", Zac Johnson highlighted some interesting facts about cloud
computing in the SMB marketplace:
Cloud Computing is up to 40 times more cost-effective for an SMB, compared to
running its own IT system. 94% of SMBs have experienced security benefits in
the cloud that they didn't have with their on-premises service Recovery times
for SMB are four times faster for businesses using cloud computing when
compared to those not utilizing cloud services. For SMB, energy use and
carbon emissions could be cut by 90% by using cloud computing, saving the
environment and energy costs.
These advantages show a strong indication that SMB information technology
should be dominated by the adoption of cloud computing services. Although
one of the most prominent of these cloud services is Microsoft'... (more)

Continuous Testing versus Test Automation: What's the Difference?
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
The past few years have brought a sea change in the way applications are
architected, developed, and consumed-increasing both the complexity of
testing and the business impact of software failures.
How can software testing professionals keep pace with modern application
delivery, given the trends that impact both architectures (cloud,
microservices, and APIs) and processes (DevOps, agile, and continuous
delivery)? This is where continuous testing comes in.
In his session at DevOps Summit at Cloud Expo, Anand Akela, Vice President of
Product Marketing at Tricentis, discussed why and how continuous testing is
different from traditional test automation.
