Equifax Is an Enron Moment, But Not the Way You May Think
Enron changed how U.S. public companies audit and report their financial
data. There is also an opportunity to use the Equifax data breach to create a
framework for better protection of our data in future.
The credit reporting agency reported one of the largest data breaches in the
history. Hackers were able to steal sensitive information from its internal
servers. The stolen data include name, Social Security Number (SSN), date of
birth, and also credit card numbers and driver license numbers in some cases.
A massive breach like this can haunt the victims for years to come.
What makes this specific breach even more damaging is the type of the stolen
data. If someone steals your credit card number, you call your bank and get a
new card hopefully before the hacker is able to make use of the stolen card.

I recently had the opportunity to give a 10-minute keynote at DataWorks
Summit 2017. I know what most of you are thinking: Schmarzo can barely
introduce himself in 10 minutes! What sort of keynote could he give in just
10 minutes? And to be honest, I too struggled with what to say.
But after some brainstorming with my marketing experts (Jeff Abbott, Erin

What Is the Future of Multi-Cloud Computing?

Like so many other IT solutions, cloud computing services have long been
promoted from a standpoint of administrative efficiency. As the rationale
goes, if you get your cloud services from a single provider, you'll enjoy the
reduced hassle of consolidating third party business relationships, receive
IT services at bargain prices, and have an easier time coordinating those
services.
It's true that using fewer service providers can offer some nice perks, but
cloud computing is moving in the opposite direction at many companies.
Instead of reaping the benefits of placing cloud services under one umbrella,
businesses are mining the advantages of the antithetical approach: receiving

I’ve always felt that bringing an economics perspective to our big data and digital transformation discussions is more important than a traditional accounting or even information technology (IT) perspective. Heck, I believe that a Chief Data Officer’s background should be more along the lines of economics than IT. Economics brings a forward-looking perspective on creating value (wealth). In fact, economics is defined as “the branch of knowledge concerned with the production, consumption, and transfer (capture) of wealth.”
