Network and Cloud Optimization
Track:

Paul Mako, born and raised in Minnesota, is the CEO & CTO of Massive Networks (massivenetworks.com).
Graduating at the top of his class in computer science and literature from the University of Colorado, he began his journey in custom network engineering back in 1996 as an internet service provider with RockyNet. Utilizing his extraordinary skill set, he designed a Proprietary T1 and security service system that went unchallenged until the advent of true VLANs in 2000.
Even more important than the innovations in technology, he was also able to expand the infrastructure within a building on a success-based build-out. This allowed him to light up both large and small buildings at a very low cost. While the security technologies have since been replaced, the inexpensive model for lighting small buildings continues to thrive and go unchallenged.
Today, Paul oversees the network customization for massive networks where he is able to help streamline enterprise class data transport services across the entire us domestic carrier system and to 181 countries worldwide equating to over 1.7 million buildings.

Presentation Slides By Elizabeth White Docker containers have brought great opportunities to shorten the deployment process through continuous integration and the delivery of applications and microservices. This applies equally to enterprise data centers as well as the cloud. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Jari Kolehmainen, founder and CTO of Kontena, discussed solutions and benefits of a deeply integrated deployment pipeline using technologies such as container management platforms, Docker containers, and the drone.io Cl tool. Sep. 10, 2017 05:00 AM EDT Reads: 1,752 | By Elizabeth White In his session at @ThingsExpo, Dr. Robert Cohen, an economist and senior fellow at the Economic Strategy Institute, presented the findings of a series of six detailed case studies of how large corporations are implementing IoT. The session explored how IoT has improved their economic performance, had major impacts on business models and resulted in impressive ROIs. The companies covered span manufacturing and services firms. He also explored servicification, how manufacturing firms shift from se... Sep. 10, 2017 04:15 AM EDT Reads: 1,782 | By Liz McMillan Cloud applications are seeing a deluge of requests to support the exploding advanced analytics market. “Open analytics” is the emerging strategy to deliver that data through an open data access layer, in the cloud, to be directly consumed by external analytics tools and popular programming languages. An increasing number of data engineers and data scientists use a variety of platforms and advanced analytics languages such as SAS, R, Python and Java, as well as frameworks such as Hadoop and Spark... Today, some cloud vendors are using artificial intelligence (AI) to simplify cloud deployment and management. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Ajay Gulati, Co-founder and CEO of ZeroStack, discussed how AI can simplify cloud operations. He covered the following topics: why cloud mana... This brought a new set of challenges as the HyperConverged vendors are very focused on their own proprietary building blocks. If you want to scale in a certain way, let’s say you identified a need for more storage and want to add a device that is not sold by the HyperConverged vendor, forget about it.... Sep. 6, 2017 10:00 PM EDT Reads: 2,713 | By Liz McMillan Most companies are adopting or evaluating container technology - Docker in particular - to speed up application deployment, drive down cost, ease management and make application delivery more flexible overall. Even when you do get your application componentized enough and packaged properly, there are still challenges for DevOps teams to making the shift to continuous delivery and achieving that reduction in cost ... Sep. 6, 2017 09:30 AM EDT Reads: 2,011 | By Elizabeth White Given the popularity of the containers, further investment in the telco/cable industry is needed to transition existing VM-based solutions to containerized cloud native deployments. The networking architecture of the solution isolates the network traffic into different network planes (e.g., management, control, and media). This naturally makes support for multiple interfaces in container orchestration engines an indispensable requirement. Sep. 6, 2017 08:15 AM EDT Reads: 1,920 | By Elizabeth White Virtualization over the past years has become a key strategy for IT to acquire multi-tenancy, increase utilization, develop elasticity and improve security. @DevOpsSummit Stories By Pat Romanski DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm. In their Day 3 Keynote at 20th Cloud Expo, Chris Brown, a Solutions Marketing Manager at Nutanix, and Mark Lavi, a Nutanix DevOps Solution Architect, explored the ways that Nutanix technologies empower teams to react faster than ever before and connect teams in ways that were either too complex or simply impossible with traditional infrastructures. Kubernetes was originally built by Google, leveraging years of experience with managing container workloads, and is now a Cloud Native Compute Foundation (CNCF) project. Kubernetes has been widely adopted by the community, supported on all major public and private cloud providers, and is gaining rapid adoption in enterprises. However, Kubernetes may seem intimidating and complex to learn. This is because Kubernetes is more of a toolset than a ready solution. Hence it’s essential to know when and how to apply the appropriate Kubernetes constructs. @DevOpsSummit Blogs By Mehdi Daoudi In Part I of this series, we examined the impact that SEO has on web performance. In this article, we analyze the performance impact of SEO within China and from the perspective of mobile sites. Back in November 2016, Google announced they were experimenting to make their index mobile-first. Google mentioned, “our ranking systems still typically look at the desktop version of a page’s content to evaluate its relevance to the user. This can cause issues when the mobile page has less content than ... Sep. 10, 2017 11:15 AM EDT Reads: 661 | By Pat Romanski DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. In their Day 3 Keynote at 20th Cloud Expo, Chris Brown, a Solutions Marketing Manager at Nutanix, and Mark Lav... Sep. 10, 2017 07:45 AM EDT Reads: 695 | By Mehdi Daoudi According to this year’s Internet Trends Report, the cloud is steadily expanding and companies are spending more on these services. Businesses are opting to use these third-party services rather than build their own internal tool because they are often easier and less expensive to deploy. There’s no need to assign IT resources and purchase necessary hardware to deploy a new software solution, so the business unit can sign a contract and start using a solution almost immediately. Sep. 10, 2017 07:15 AM EDT Reads: 711 | By Mehdi Daoudi In our first installment of this blog series, we went over the different types of applications migrated to the cloud and the benefits IT organizations hope to achieve by moving applications to the cloud. Unfortunately, IT can’t just press a button or even whip up a few lines of code to move applications to the cloud. Like any strategic move by IT, a cloud migration requires advanced planning. Sep. 10, 2017 07:15 AM EDT Reads: 1,523 | By PagerDuty Blog The convergence of rapid feature development, automation, continuous delivery, and the shifting makeup of modern tech stacks has pushed monitoring requirements to a potentially overwhelming scale. But while the systems you need to monitor are complex, your monitoring strategy doesn’t have to be. The scale and pace of change involved in ops today dictate a carefully crafted monitoring and incident response strategy. Keeping the strategy simple will take some of the pain out of monitoring.
