What is a reverse career fair?
A Reverse Career Fair reverses the roles of a traditional Career Fair. Student organizations will provide information tables and display what their group has to offer. Employers will visit tables in order to gather more information about the student organizations and build connections with student groups of interest.
What are the benefits?
For student groups: This not only provides valuable opportunities for students to show how companies can engage with their groups, but it gives student representatives experience in pitching and networking to potential employers.
For companies: This event provides the opportunity for companies to connect with some of Illinois’ best and brightest students. Companies will learn about the work of each group, how to engage with these groups throughout the year, build connections with the members, and potentially form long lasting relationships with students that could work for their organization in the future.
What should student groups do to prepare for the event?
Organizations should prepare a poster or display that clearly shows the name of their organization as well as any pertinent information about their group. Groups are also encouraged to bring brochures, business cards, resume books and any other materials that may be valuable to the Research Park Companies. Dress code of the day of the event is Business Casual. Feel free to wear apparel that has your group logo.
On the day of the event please have at minimum, but not limited to, two representatives from your organization at your table at all times. Groups are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start to check-in and set up their table.
What companies will be in attendance?
All Research Park companies are invited to attend this event. The Research Park is home to more than 90 companies. This includes large corporations such as Yahoo, Capital One, Anheuser-Busch InBev, John Deere, Caterpillar, State Farm and many more. What groups could most benefit from this event?
The companies in Research Park place a strong emphasis on technology and innovation. Groups that are engaged with general engineering, computer science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, library information sciences, actuarial sciences, data analytics, knowledge management, web development, mobile development, graphic and industrial design, informatics, or entrepreneurship will best relate to the companies in Research Park . Slots for groups to be considered for this event may be limited to the listed areas.
