Debunking the Myths of Scale-up Architectures
When growing capacity and power in the data center, the architectural
trade-offs between server scale-up vs. scale-out continue to be debated. Both
approaches are valid: scale-out adds multiple, smaller servers running in a
distributed computing model, while scale-up adds fewer, more powerful servers
that are capable of running larger workloads.
It's worth noting that there are additional, unique advantages that scale-up
architectures offer. One big advantage is large memory and compute capacity

The term "Business Intelligence" and its acronym "BI" are so pervasive in
today's data-intensive lexicon that it's a challenge to know just what to
make of it. If you add in all the new trendy terminology such as business
process management (BPM), data mining, data warehousing, business process

The Internet of Things (IoT) has evolved quite rapidly, especially if you consider how long it took for little packet-switching networks like ARPANET to morph into today’s nearly ubiquitous internet. Our nascent IoT ecosystem is already populated by billions of sensors and connected devices, hundreds of millions of servers, and thousands of hybrid clouds serving billions of people… all of them perpetually producing and/or consuming data in an explosion of information.
The cloud ushered in a fundamental change in the way applications are deployed. Instead of worrying about how much dedicated hardware to order for your data center, you simply spin up as many servers as you need to do the job, then decommission them once the job is done. Yet, you still have to plan how many servers you will need at each stage of processing; you still have to remember to decommission them when done; and you pay for the entire virtual machine during the time you use it even though the server may be idle for most of that time.
