I have not blogged much about what I work with or do and that's on purpose.  Sometimes I am not allowed to tell and mostly I think you would not find it interesting.  However, I wanna share with you from Qt Developer Days #qtdd09 in Munich, which was an amazing event.   Not only is Qt a decent Developer tool for making desktop apps, but joining forces with Nokia, ex-Trolltech is getting far more traction as well. As a result of last week's devdays but also beta-release of Qt 4.6, one of my favorite online newsletter had this article last week.   But being at DevDays Europe is an amazing experience. Third year now for me and it keeps blowing my mind off.  This year an amazing 660 delegates + the 80+ Nokians that attended/helped out.   The DevDays often comes with some new stuff.  This year, the former Trolltech cheif engineer, Matthias Ettrich, launched QML in his ... Microsoft Open Source Chief Goes to the Cloud

Cloud Computing on Ulitzer Sam Ramji, Microsoft’s open source defector, whose imminent departure from the company became widely known when Microsoft set up its own CodePlex open source foundation a few weeks ago, has turned up at five-year-old cloud start-up Sonoa Systems, where he will head product strategy and business development. Sonoa, which has little open source exposure so far, does something called ServiceNet, which is supposed to set security and scaling policies for cloud-based services, acting as a proxy server between the service provider and the consumer. It says it provides the visibility, management and governance required to make cloud services and APIs as robust, compliant and scalable as internal on-premise applications. It uses a network-router design that supports the high concurrency required by the cloud with extremely low latency. The stuf... (more)

Mobile App or Mobile Web

Since the launch of iPhone the mobile industry has been in a flux. It has witnessed lot of innovations since then. Today, more choices are available to the user than ever before which has resulted in a fragmented market. It has complicated matters for every organization which wants to reach out to their consumers through mobile. There are too many platforms to be supported and there is no standardization. Some industry segments have not made any significant move to reach out to their consumer through mobile platform and are playing a waiting game – waiting for the technology to mature. However, travel industry cannot afford to do that. Mobile phone is a personal device – more personal than the “personal” computer. You might lend your PC to coworker or a friend for few hours but can you imagine lending your mobile phone? Travel is also a personal activity. Nobody else... (more)

The Big Benefits of Thinking Small By @GoClio | @CloudExpo [#Cloud]

Case Study: The Big Benefits of Thinking Small It had always been a dream to start a company with my childhood best friend, Rian Gauvreau, but we hadn't been able to truly find a business model that worked for us. In 2007, cloud computing was just beginning to make waves, and while many recognized the opportunities that the cloud presented for business, most were quick to go for the "one size fits all" model seen in traditional enterprise technology solutions. That same year, we began to see a need for a platform within the legal industry that could increase efficiency, saving lawyers both time and money. When we founded Clio, a cloud-based practice management solution for lawyers, many were quick to question our move to build a product for such a niche customer base. Why go for one specific audience, when the numbers were so much greater if you created a tool for al... (more)

Intel & Nokia to Create a Universal Mobile OS

Wireless Technology Magazine on Ulitzer Intel, the semiconductor giant, and Nokia, the mighty handset maker, have united to create a universal widget operating system good for phones, laptops, netbooks, tablets, vehicle entertainment systems, Internet-connected TVs and other still-unimagined devices out of their existing Linux platforms - an open source combination of Intel's netbook-oriented Moblin and Nokia's smartphone-fancying Maemo. They're calling the thing MeeGo and the Linux Foundation will be hosting the project under Intel's Imad Sousou and Nokia's Valtteri Halla. The widgetry, due out next quarter, will support both Intel's Atom processor and rival ARM chips - though Nokia doesn't support Atom - and go up against Google's x86- and ARM-supporting Chrome OS and everybody else in the game. It's anticipated that MeeGo could eventually support other architecture... (more)

Sybase and Orange Business Services

On Tuesday I reported that at CeBit in Hannover, Germany... SAP & Sybase announced the first set of applications to Millions of Mobile Workers. This will extend the reach of SAP Business Suite Applications (including SAP CRM), to iPhone, Windows Mobile and other Mobile Device Users. Then on the next day came another great announcement that Orange Business Services will leverage Sybase’s enterprise device management platform (Afaria) to help companies tackle the challenge resulting from the increasing number of... mobile workers devices applications and ever-growing heterogeneity of corporate mobile environments. I have always said that, both Management & Security are inter-dependant and if not in place, your valuable enterprise mobile asset is vulnerable as soon at it is goes 'on-the-road'. I use the wording valuable, not really due to the cost of the actual device, ... (more)

You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
For financial firms, the cloud is going to increasingly become a crucial part of dealing with customers over the next five years and beyond, particularly with the growing use and acceptance of virtual currencies. There are new data storage paradigms on the horizon that will deliver secure solutions for storing and moving sensitive financial data around the world without touching terrestrial networks. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Cliff Beek, President of Cloud Constellation Corporation, w...
When shopping for a new data processing platform for IoT solutions, many development teams want to be able to test-drive options before making a choice. Yet when evaluating an IoT solution, it’s simply not feasible to do so at scale with physical devices. Building a sensor simulator is the next best choice; however, generating a realistic simulation at very high TPS with ease of configurability is a formidable challenge. When dealing with multiple application or transport protocols, you would be...

A strange thing is happening along the way to the Internet of Things, namely far too many devices to work with and manage. It has become clear that we'll need much higher efficiency user experiences that can allow us to more easily and scalably work with the thousands of devices that will soon be in each of our lives. Enter the conversational interface revolution, combining bots we can literally talk with, gesture to, and even direct with our thoughts, with embedded artificial intelligence, whic...

The current age of digital transformation means that IT organizations must adapt their toolset to cover all digital experiences, beyond just the end users’. Today’s businesses can no longer focus solely on the digital interactions they manage with employees or customers; they must now contend with non-traditional factors. DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm.
