Leveraging WebRTC for the Internet of Things
Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers
are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now
bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data
Channels.

With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as
WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the
Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately
and securely in a decentralized way.
In his session at WebRTC Summit, Luis Montes, founder and CEO of Iced
Development, discussed in some detail how we can build web apps like this
today.

The Automated Docker Container Deployment Pipeline
Docker containers have brought great opportunities to shorten the deployment
process through continuous integration and the delivery of applications and
microservices. This applies equally to enterprise data centers as well as the
cloud.
In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Jari Kolehmainen, founder and CTO of
Kontena, will discuss solutions and benefits of a deeply integrated
deployment pipeline using technologies such as container management
platforms, Docker containers, and the drone.io Cl tool. He also will
demonstrate deployment of a CI/CD pipeline using container management, as
well as show how to deploy a containerized application through a continuous
delivery pipeline.

WebRTC Reborn

WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working
with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about
WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was.
You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find
the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly
documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when
things went wrong.
Those in the industry have been working hard to sweeten the deal again -
efforts have been made to bring WebRTC into the mainstream and as a result
the technology is experiencing a rebirth. Thanks to those who have remained
dedicated to improving the situation for those around them, WebRTC is finally
starting to fulfill the original expectations that were had of it. Both the

The mad dash to connect virtually every noun to the internet or the Internet
of Things is creating a massive M2M network for all the devices, systems,
sensors and actuators to connect & communicate on the Internet.
With that, they need a communications protocol to understand each other. One
of those is Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT). MQTT is a “subscribe
and publish” messaging protocol designed for lightweight machine-to-machine
(or IoT) communications.
In this episode of Lightboard Lessons, I light up how MQTT works.

The widespread success of cloud computing is driving the DevOps revolution in
enterprise IT. Now as never before, development teams must communicate and
collaborate in a dynamic, 24/7/365 environment. There is no time to wait for
long development cycles that produce software that is obsolete at launch.
DevOps may be disruptive, but it is essential.

The Most Popular Programming Languages for 2017
By Jordan Bach
It’s hard to believe that it’s already 2017. But with the new year comes
new challenges, new opportunities—and, of course—new software projects.
One of the most important questions beginner, intermediate, and advanced
coders all have to answer before they begin their next project is which
programming language to use. Instead of reaching for an old favorite, pause
for a moment to consider the options.
There are no perfect languages, so it’s important to take the time to
understand the tradeoffs. When you decide on a language, you also determine
what libraries and tools you have at your disposal, the pool of candidates
you can hire, the availability of documentation, and much more. In this
article, we examine the top programming languages from leading industry
sources to help you make an informed decision ... (more)
@CloudExpo Stories By Liz McMillan WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of “data” has been limited to text chat and file download – all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? The tools that you currently use to manage the software and hardware outside the cloud aren’t always the best tools to efficiently grow into the cloud. All of the major configuration management tools have cloud orchestration plugins that can be leveraged, but there are also cloud-native tools that can dramatically improve the efficiency of managing your application lifecycle.
