If you haven't heard yet, CollabNet just put out some very big news for
managing and gaining value from DevOps.
We introduced CollabNet DevOps Lifecycle Manager (DLM) - a platform designed
exclusively for providing a single pane of glass, dashboard, and traceability
views across your DevOps toolchain and processes from planning to operations
and that can be traced back to planning and development.
CollabNet DLM gives companies a holistic view of the entire software
development lifecycle with continuous feedback-all by leveraging your
existing investment from point-tool vendors.
The CollabNet lab started working on this new product after seeing a gap in
the market and listening to the needs of customers related to the DevOps
toolchain. Due to the number of point solutions available for every part of
the software development lifecycle-tools for plan and build, and all... (more)
Will the IoT Be the Death of Us?
Unsecured IoT devices were used to launch crippling DDOS attacks in October
2016, targeting services such as Twitter, Spotify, and GitHub. Subsequent
testimony to Congress about potential attacks on office buildings, schools,
and hospitals raised the possibility for the IoT to harm and even kill
people. What should be done? Does the government need to intervene? In this
power panel at @ThingExpo New York, moderated by Conference Chair Roger
Strukhoff, leading IoT and security experts will discuss this very serious
topic.
Roger Strukhoff is Conference Chair of Cloud Expo | @ThingsExpo, and Editor
of SYS-CON Media's CloudComputing | BigData | IoT Journals. He also serves as
Director of Research for Altoros, Executive Director of the Tau Institute,
and Co-Chair of DCD Converged. He is a top Onalytica influencer in Cloud

What Is the Business Imperative for Cognitive Computing?
Cognitive Computing is becoming the foundation for a new generation of
solutions that have the potential to transform business. Unlike traditional
approaches to building solutions, a cognitive computing approach allows the
data to help determine the way applications are designed. This contrasts with
conventional software development that begins with defining logic based on
the current way a business operates.
In her session at 18th Cloud Expo, Judith S. Hurwitz, President and CEO of
Hurwitz & Associates, Inc., put cognitive computing into perspective with its
value to the business. The session detailed what it takes to build a
cognitive application and the types of solutions that are the best fit for
this data-driven approach.

The Resurgence of AI, ML, and DL
We have been seeing a sudden rise in the deployment of Artificial
Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL). It looks
like the long “AI winter” is finally over.
According to IDC, AI-related hardware, software and services business will
jump from $8B this year to $47B by 2020. I have also read comments like,
“AI is like the Internet in the mid 1990s and it will be pervasive this
time”. According to Andrew Ng, chief scientist at Baidu, “AI is the new
electricity. Just as 100 years ago electricity transformed industry after
industry, AI will now do the same.” Peter Lee, co-head at Microsoft
Research said, “Sales teams are using neural nets to recommend which
prospects to contact next or what kind of products to recommend.” IBM
Watson used AI in 2011, not DL. Now all 30 components are augmented by DL

From IoT Service to IoT Profit
Whether your IoT service is connecting cars, homes, appliances, wearable,
cameras or other devices, one question hangs in the balance - how do you
actually make money from this service? The ability to turn your IoT service
into profit requires the ability to create a monetization strategy that is
flexible, scalable and working for you in real-time. It must be a
transparent, smoothly implemented strategy that all stakeholders - from
customers to the board - will be able to understand and comprehend.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Michael Beamer, President of goTransverse,
will discuss how to build a dynamic monetization strategy that effortlessly
turns their IoT service into a money maker.

The holiday season is nearly upon us (I’ve already heard Christmas songs
being played…really?) and retailers are usually the big winners during the
holiday season. However, leading retailers are already thinking beyond the
current holiday season, and not just from marketing and merchandising
perspectives. These leading retailers are considering how this holiday season
– and the resulting wealth of customer, product and operational data –
can be converted into new analytic insights that can be used to optimize key
business processes, uncover new monetization opportunities and create a more
compelling, more prescriptive user experience all year round.
The holiday season provides an opportunity for retailers to accelerate or
jump start their processes for gathering, harvesting and exploiting customer,
product and operational insights that can pay financial dividends ye... (more)

Personalization in the Age of IoT
More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of
wearables - activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and
more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no
idea what "IoT" means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be
the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users
should be.

We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it
swung toward "smart for smart's sake," and many brands remain in that corner.
But many brands are also gradually opting for more strategic approaches.

Ten Tips on How to Maximize Your @CloudExpo and @ThingsExpo Sponsorship
Benefits
@CloudExpo and @ThingsExpo, two of the most important technology events in
the world, have hosted hundreds of sponsors and exhibitors since their launch
eight years ago.
In this blog post, I provide 10 tips on how our sponsors and exhibitors can
maximize their participation at our events. But before reading my top 10 tips
for our sponsors and exhibitors, please take a moment and watch this brief
Sandy Carter video.

business folks who are interested in what the cloud can bring to their
business. You know really how it allows them to bring the transformation of
the business process."

@CloudExpo Stories By Elizabeth White When it comes to cloud computing, the ability to turn massive amounts of compute cores on and off on demand sounds attractive to IT staff, who need to manage peaks and valleys in user activity. With cloud bursting, the majority of the data can stay on premises while tapping into compute from public cloud providers, reducing risk and minimizing need to move large files.

A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha... To succeed in a DevOps context, organizations should plan to develop/deploy apps across a choice of on-premise and public clouds simultaneously depending on the business needs. This is where the concept of the Lean Cloud comes in - resting on the idea that you often need to relocate your app modules over their life cycles for both innovation and operational efficiency in the cloud.
