How effective is your organization at leveraging data and analytics to power
the business?
This is the question that we pose at the beginning of our client
conversations. Gaining intimate insights about your customer, product, and
operational behaviors, tendencies, trends and propensities is critical if
organizations want to drive digital business transformation; optimizing key
business processes, uncovering new monetization opportunities and creating a
more compelling customer experience.
Unfortunately, organizations are struggling to leverage big data to drive
their digital business transformation. They have fallen into the “Digital
Business Transformation Chasm” where technology investments and proof of
concept exercises are failing to yield the promised digital business
transformation. These organizations have not adopted a customer-centric,
business-driven ... (more)
Understanding the Inscrutable Chinese Internet
If you had a chance to enter on the ground level of the largest e-commerce
market in the world - would you? China is the world's most populated country
with the second largest economy and the world's fastest growing market. It is
estimated that by 2018 the Chinese market will be reaching over $30 billion
in gaming revenue alone.
Admittedly for a foreign company, doing business in China can be challenging.
Often changing laws, administrative regulations and the often inscrutable
Chinese Internet combined with ICP registration, the Gr... (more)
Cloud computing is now being embraced by a majority of enterprises of all
sizes. Yesterday's debate about public vs. private has transformed into the
reality of hybrid cloud: a recent survey from Gartner shows that 74% of
enterprises have a hybrid cloud strategy. Meanwhile, 94% of enterprises are
using some form of XaaS – software, platform, and infrastructure as a
service.
Yet enterprises in the U.S. and throughout the world are still lagging in
their use of Information Technology (IT), according to research my team and I
continuously conduct at the Tau Institute for Global ICT... (more)
Cross-Protocol M2M IoT Communications
Fifty billion connected devices and still no winning protocols standards.
HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and CoAP seem to be leading in the IoT protocol race
at the moment but many more protocols are getting introduced on a regular
basis. Each protocol has its pros and cons depending on the nature of the
communications. Does there really need to be only one protocol to rule them
all? Of course not.

@ThingsExpo Stories By Elizabeth White Ask someone to architect an Internet of Things (IoT) solution and you are guaranteed to see a reference to the cloud. This would lead you to believe that IoT requires the cloud to exist. However, there are many IoT use cases where the cloud is not feasible or desirable.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Dave McCarthy, Director of Products at Bsquare Corporation, will discuss the strategies that exist to extend intelligence directly to IoT devices and sensors, freeing them from the constraints of ... Oct. 1, 2016 11:30 AM EDT Reads: 1,322 | By Elizabeth White Complete Internet of Things (IoT) embedded device security is not just about the device but involves the entire product’s identity, data and control integrity, and services traversing the cloud. A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha... Oct. 1, 2016 10:30 AM EDT Reads: 711 | By Elizabeth White Fact is, enterprises have significant legacy voice infrastructure that’s costly to replace with pure IP solutions. How can we bring this analog infrastructure into our shiny new cloud applications? There are proven methods to bind both legacy voice applications and traditional PSTN audio into cloud-based applications and services at a carrier scale. Some of the most successful implementations leverage WebRTC, WebSockets, SIP and other open source technologies.

Oct. 1, 2016 06:00 AM EDT Reads: 1,955 | By Kevin Benedict Digital transformation is too big and important for our future success to not understand the rules that apply to it. The first three rules for winning in this age of hyper-digital transformation are:
Advantages in speed, analytics and operational tempos must be captured by implementing an optimized information logistics system (OILS)
Real-time operational tempos (IT, people and business processes) must be achieved
Businesses that can "analyze data and act and with speed" will dominate those t... Oct. 1, 2016 05:45 AM EDT Reads: 1,349 |
