I had the chance to catch up with Jeff Sussna ahead of his keynote address on
continuous design, scheduled for DevOpsDays Atlanta, April 26-27. Jeff
discussed the importance of designing for service, responding to the
unexpected, and the importance of building empathy across teams.
Derek Weeks: Today, I'm really happy that we have Jeff Sussna joining us for
the latest in this series. Jeff, why don't you introduce yourself?
Jeff Sussna: Sure. Thanks for having me. I'm an independent consultant. I've
been around since rocks were young or the 80s, whichever is older. My
particular background is that I have built systems and led organizations
across the entire development, QA and operations spectrum. So, I'm a little
unique in that respect.
My current focus is on helping IT organizations and digital businesses really
bring together their ops and design thinking so they c... (more)
Fitbits and the Industrial Internet: How Both Improve Overall Wellness
Manufacturers are embracing the Industrial Internet the same way consumers
are leveraging Fitbits - to improve overall health and wellness. Both can
provide consistent measurement, visibility, and suggest performance
improvements customized to help reach goals. Fitbit users can view real-time
data and make adjustments to increase their activity.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Mark Bernardo Professional Services Leader,
Americas, at GE Digital, will discuss how leveraging the Industrial Internet

Software as a Service (SaaS) is a model that has become a popular choice for
deploying enterprise applications, delivering efficiencies and value to
organizations in many ways. The benefits SaaS solutions deliver include not
only avoiding the major resource drain and licensing costs associated with
deploying business-critical software across the organization, they also
relieve IT from ongoing maintenance tasks associated with on-premise
deployments, such as performing upgrades, installing patches and managing
availability. Moreover, SaaS can enhance flexibility and scalability fo... (more)
Don't Forget the Ops: Build Operations into Your Cloud
Many private cloud projects were built to deliver self-service access to
development and test resources. While those clouds delivered faster access to
resources, they lacked visibility, control and security needed for production
deployments.
In their session at 18th Cloud Expo, Steve Anderson, Product Manager at BMC
Software, and Rick Lefort, Principal Technical Marketing Consultant at BMC
Software, will discuss how a cloud designed for production operations not
only helps accelerate developer innovation, it also delivers th... (more)
The next BriefingsDirect hybrid computing case study discussion explores how
regulations around data sovereignty are forcing enterprises to consider new
approaches to data location, intellectual property, and cloud collaboration
services.
As organizations move beyond their on-premises data centers, regulation and
data sovereignty issues have become as important as the technical
requirements for their cloud infrastructure and applications.
To learn how organizations have been able to get the best of data control and
protection -- along with business agility -- from hybrid cloud mo... (more)
Initially, we came across ransomware which exploited the entire system and
just restricted you from interacting with your own device, later on requiring
you to pay dollars if you want to go back and use your computer.
And then it started becoming obsolete because an end-user. People were asking
themselves: “That is my computer, would I pay $100 for it? If I don't
really have data, I’d better format my PC and start all over again.” So,
that strategy – locking access to computers, started becoming obsolete.
What did the bad guys do? They realized that the previous strategy was onl... (more)
