Scared Stifftm Dancing Boogiemen Kit

NEW LOWER PRICE!!

Kit Includes:

2 custom aluminum extensions attached to new OEM Bally kicker cranks and 2 rubber boogiemen.

Note: The boogiemen vary in design and may be different than the ones you receive.

$99.95

Please note that of 1-20-2008 the rubber "Finger Fright" monsters which I have used over the past years are now no longer available. The company which imported them was Small World Toys out of California, they weresold last fall and there is no word on whether or not they will be available again. After trying several different styles of finger puppets, I came across some that work great!!
All future orders will include 2 of these finger puppets you see below until such time the origins become available again.

So what is a dancing Boogieman anyway? When the pinball game Scared Stiff tm was introduced in 1996 it was designed to have moving rubber figures mounted over the slingshot plastics. The figures called Boogiemen would shake forward each time the ball hit the slingshot area as well as dance to the music during the Boogie Mode. Did you ever notice that in your slingshot plastics they have a opening between the feet? This is so the arm holding the Boogieman could freely move all the way forward. This design was part of the machine all the way to the end. It was programmed into the machines ROM chips as well as being a replaceable part in the machines manual...take a look in yours. At the last minute the Bally tm Co. dropped this feature because the Boogiemen's arms will eventually fall off. In a commercial machine, that might be an issue but for us pinball nuts that have these machines in our homes it's no big deal. If their arms fall off in time, just put on a new one.

So why should I buy these Boogieman extensions? Because these extensions were never professionally produced by Bally tm or any other company before, hobbyists have been making these in there garages out of scrap steel with springs soldered on them. I bought a set myself that looked pretty crude (no offense) the first time the extension moved forward the hammered in pop rivet chipped my perfect playfield...ugg!! That's when I decided my fellow pinball friends needed a truly professional set of Boogieman extensions. My best friend just happens to own a $60,000 computerized CNC mill, well anyway, it can make almost anything you could ever want out of metal. I had him custom design a Boogieman extension that was truly worthy of your expensive pinball machine...you'll love them!

We believe this professionally milled set of Boogieman extensions are the best yet produced on the market today. These extensions are computer milled from aircraft 6061 T6 hardened aluminum and are much lighter and stronger than other after market extensions. This kit will restore a very neat feature that was omitted from the final production of your pinball machine. Included with this kit are two ready to install extension arms and two rubber Boogiemen. The Boogiemen vary in design and may be different than the ones you receive.

Installing the Scared Stiff Extension Kit

11/32" socket driver

1/4" socket driver

needle nose pliers

Important Notice:

By installing this kit you will assume sole responsibility for any and all liability of incidental or consequential damage to your machine, yourself and others.

Some areas of your playfield contain very high voltage, be sure and install this kit with the power turned off.

Installation:

Repeat this entire procedure to both sides of playfield.

Using an 11/32" socket driver, remove the slingshot plastics under the existing boogie men.

Using a 1/4" socket driver, remove the metal bracket that holds the original boogie man. To keep a clean look, I would recommend reinstalling the screw only back into the playfield or this hole will be partially visible.

Remove the 4 balls from the machine and stand the playfield upright in a service position. Do this by lifting up on playfield, then pull it out toward you until it locks, swing the playfield up until it rests against the head of the machine.

Remove the kicker arm from the coil. There is a small clip and washer holding it in place. Be careful not to lose these since they will be put back when you install the new arm. See Fig. 1 below.

Using a 1/4" socket driver, remove the 3 bracket screws that hold the kicker arm to the playfield. Now you can carefully remove the kicker arm assembly from the playfield. See Fig. 2 below.

Remove the clip and washer holding the mounting bracket to the old kicker arm and reinstall the bracket to your new boogieman kicker.

Now you can carefully reinstall the new kicker arm to your machine. As you reinstall the three 1/4" screws, be careful not to over tighten and strip out the playfield.

Now you can reinstall the washer and clip that you removed earlier from the coil.

Your almost ready to boogie! After you have completed this entire procedure to both sides, lower your playfield and reinstall the 4 balls in your game.

Temporarily set your slingshot plastics back in to place, you will need to push the boogieman extensions forward to do this. Move the extensions forward a few times with your finger and make sure it is not rubbing on your slingshots. You may need to remove the slingshot plastic and slightly bend the extension sideways one way or the other so it can move freely within the opening of the slingshot plastic. Now reinstall your slingshot plastics with the 11/32 nuts.

Slide the new boogiemen that came with this kit onto your new extensions. Because the extensions are hollow, they will create a suction preventing them from falling off.

GET DOWN...LETS BOOGIE

Since your machine is probably not yet set up to dance during the boogie mode you will need to turn this on in the machines program. In your machines program under (A-2) go to setting number 32 and turn it on.

Hi Mark,

Tonight I installed the Dancing Boogie Men and they really look great!
They are (slightly) bigger than the 'original' Boogie Men but look so much
nicer!

Installation was quite easy as I expected. Attached you'll find a picture of the installed product :-))

Thanks again!

Thanks Theo,

I appreciate you and your UK pinball organization for your multi kit purchase. It seems almost half of my sales are to the United Kingdom and Germany.
