Some people like to go fishing in their spare time, or veg out in front of the TV all weekend. ARM Principal Engineer David Gilday prefers to design and create robots made of LEGO bricks that will solve the Rubik's Cube. But not content with that David has also created 'bots that will solve 4 x 4, 5 x 5 and 7 x 7 puzzles, not to mention the Megaminxer puzzle and many others. The latest creation is the CubeStormer II which is a joint project between David and Mike Dobson. Mike built the robot mechanics and with David's software algorithms the CubeStormer holds the official world record for a robot solving the cube. In fact it's faster than the current human world record.
