"Where we are moving now is if you look at products today from Rational, 80% of them are Eclipse-integrated today. As a general, strategic direction, we are moving them from Eclipse-integrated to Eclipse-based."

"You will see greater and greater integration and construction on top of the Eclipse framework, so basically, Eclipse is at the core of all the products that we build as part of the software development platform."

Jeffrey Hammond, group market manager for IBM Rational Software
[speaking during a news briefing, March 28, 2003]

I just wish that IBM Rational would speed up their development of XDE that would work with WSAD 5.1 / Eclipse 2.1. How long has this been available 4+ month at least. IBM Rational support keeps replying that it will be ready in 2 months. They told us that in November and they where still telling us that last week. It is not like the WSAD 5.1 / Eclipse 2.1 release was a surprise. WSAD has never been that far behind upgrading to the new release of Eclipse and IBM Rational should have the same standard for XDE.

Rational fully based on Eclipse is a great news !!!
The Omondo EclipseUML solution is already build on the top of Eclipse, using the Eclipse automatic builder technology, native GEF and EMF integration.
Our core has been totally developed from scratch with an Eclipse live bi-directional (byte-code) model and code synchronisation. We are the only company worldwide to have mastered these technologies.
Omondo''s philosophy is to be focused on a native Eclipse integration, to respect official standards, to be independant of technological choices and to use UML to integrate and contribute to the best of breed open source technologies.
Omondo is a small European company and the leading Eclipse UML solution with more than 100.000 regular users. We are IBM partner, and consider that any other independant software vendor should join the Eclipse community. Our new open api and UML2 profiles will allows any ISV to use advanced modeling functionalities and cover the complete development life cycle inside Eclipse.
Eclipse is now the first java develoment platform, any vendor could improve its own solutions using other plugin integrations.
Eclipse is not just an IDE, it is a platform and the only alternative to dotnet.
