Peter Coffee, Director of Platform Research for Salesforce.com, will be presenting at SYS-CON's 2nd International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo in New York City this coming March 30-April 1, 2009. Coffee, who works with enterprise and entrepreneurial developers and IT managers to build a community based on the company's Force.com Platform as a Service, will be speaking about how Cloud computing should not be wrongly perceived as an either-or option, compared to other models of on-premise data centers or outsourced IT services.
Coffee's session is titled "The Complementary Cloud" and he will discuss how non-proprietary protocols and fully disclosed interfaces let service consumers assemble solutions from multiple service providers, using each in the areas where its distinctive technologies and high-leverage APIs offer maximum advantage in creating new value - or releasing it from current IT assets.
"System integrators can draw on an expanding universe of cloud-based components," notes Coffee. His session will examine the current state of play and recommend best practices for buyers, sellers and resellers of cloud APIs and resources.

Cloud Computing Is Swelling Into an Estimated $36BN Market
The Cloud Computing conference theme this March is “The Delivery of IT Resources as Services” - with 100+ breakout sessions by leading industry CEOs and CTOs whose companies already recognize that what today's companies need above all is to be able to build infrastructures that can scale up or down at a moment's notice.
Over the next five years, IDC expects spending on IT cloud services to grow almost threefold, reaching $42 billion by 2012 and accounting for some 9% of total software sales. More importantly, spending on cloud computing will accelerate throughout the forecast period, capturing 25% of IT spending growth in 2012 and nearly a third of growth the following year.
Cloud computing helps IT cut infrastructure costs while adding new features and services to grow core businesses. Clouds can help grow margins as costs are cut back but service offerings are expanded.
