Preview: Starbound

By Nathan Meunier | PC Previews | May 24, 2012 3:47 PM | Comment

Finn "Tiy" Brice is eager to point out his next big project, Starbound, is not a sequel to the million-selling indie hit Terraria -- a game for which he crafted the Super Nintendo-style pixel art. That likely won't stop players from drawing some obvious comparisons between the two, but as the head of new collaborative studio Chucklefish Games, Brice is pushing upwards and onwards to take his new sci-fi-tinged 2D sandbox RPG in a very different direction. You wanted it, I wanted it -- damn near every Skyrim player wanted mounted combat. (Except for you, snarky contrarian man. You never want anything cool.) Well, it's finally here, courtesy of the Skyrim 1.6 Update beta, and I've just returned from the frozen North to give you my first quick impressions. Give me a minute though, I'm still feeling a little woozy. Read More »

Saddle Up! Skyrim 1.6 Adds Mounted Combat

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | May 24, 2012 1:13 PM | Comment

I'll give my trusty Skyrim steed credit: that pony isn't afraid to kick a dragon in the teeth. Other than its comical bodyguard tendencies, though, my horse is nothing more than a four-legged version of boots of speed. That changes today with the Skyrim 1.6 Update, which introduces one of the most requested TES V features: mounted combat. Read More »

Vampires Get Bite in Dark

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | May 24, 2012 12:34 PM | Comment

Vampires. So hot right now. Unfortunately for them, though, they seem to have lost a bit of their terrifying reputation in favor of a more romantic, sexy veneer. DARK is looking to reverse that particular image and make the blood suckers scary again. Stealth is a key element to any vampire's repertoire, and this DARK trailer doesn't disappoint in that aspect. Tower Offense: The Summoner Class Comes to Dungeon Defenders

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | May 24, 2012 10:38 AM | Comment

I hate to be cliche, but they do say that the best defense is a good offense. Yup, that's a thing somebody says from time to time. I bet you've even said it. For those of you that believe such a thing, Dungeon Defenders is adding the Summoner hero class. The magical being plays quite differently than the other available characters, as he's able to step back from the battlefield to summon and control his own monsters, RTS style, to go toe-to-toe with the oncoming hordes. Ron Gilbert's New Double Fine Game is The Cave

By Mike Nelson | PC News | May 24, 2012 6:00 AM | Comment

Last night at a small gathering at the Double Fine offices, Ron Gilbert took the wrapping off a small project he's been working on. No, this isn't that project. This game is called The Cave, a downloadable game that's set to be released in early 2013. Upon first glance it looks like it draws some tremendous inspiration from Trine. But once you start to look a little deeper into The Cave, you see flashes of Gilbertisms (that's a word, honest) in the characters and a touch of old school adventure gaming mechanics that help to drive the puzzle solutions. We Chat Guns of Icarus Online with Muse Games

By Mike Sharkey | PC Previews | May 24, 2012 5:37 AM | Comment

How appropriate: a game about airship combat that pushes a number of my nerd buttons somehow managed to fly completely under my radar. Until last week, that is, when I watched clips from the Guns of Icarus Online beta and wondered where the unique class- and team-based zeppelin skirmisher has been all my gaming life. Read More »

Go Crazy with the Far Cry 3 Insane Edition

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | May 23, 2012 11:47 AM | Comment

Just how insane is Vaas, the main antagonist in Far Cry 3? Apparently, he's crazy enough to create a bobblehead with his own face on it. Wait, that's not really that insane. That's kinda just really arrogant. Well, how about showing off that bobblehead to someone he's just captured, complete with voice acting, just before blowing that person's head off? Yeah, that's reasonably crazy. The trailer for the Insane Edition of Far Cry 3 shows off just that. Read More »
