Last year on our Open Government webinar Andy MacLeod of Cisco presented on G-Cloud, the UK program to adopt Government Cloud Computing, providing an initial basis for our G-Cloud section in GovCloud.info.
(Join our GovCloud Linkedin networking group here).
This year at the recent OMG conference on public sector Cloud Computing Andy Tait of VMware also presented an update of where they are up to now.
Download his (15 page PDF) presentation here, to learn about:
- How the ASG (Apps Store for Government) has been implemented as the CloudStore
- How the catalogue has been populated with over 1,700 services from almost 300 suppliers
- Notification version 2 of the CloudStore is coming and will be Open Source
- Key facets of the ‘Road to Cloud’ includes a Cloud First policy, Cloud friendly contracting, a common architecture for Cloud apps
Of course Andy described the role VMware plays in this scenario, mentioned VMware Foundry and partners will increasingly become a part of the IL1-3 classification, and how secure Gov applications will become available as utility services on top: Zimbra, Huddle, etc.
One of the deliverables of our Drummond Cloud report will be to profile how the apps store concept & VMware implementations can be applied in Canada in a similar fashion.
