Reckless Racing iPhone Review
Just a good ol' boy, never meanin' no harm.

Remember the classic racer Super Off Road? Reckless Racing is its spiritual sequel. You climb behind the wheel of a good ol' boy's pick-'em-truck and fishtail through several courses crowded with other rivals. There are other rides, too, like big rigs and muscle cars, but something about Reckless Racing's (purposeful) redneck vibe just makes you gravitate to the pick-up.
Reckless Racing strongly benefits from two key features. One, the track design is very good. They are all fun (although there are not that many -- and they are mirrored to double the count), offering lots of hairpins turns where you can wipe out as well as opportunities to fly right off into a canyon or river. The default racing controls are also excellent. There are other schemes like tilt and a virtual wheel, but none offer the precision of the basic system of two arrows (left and right) and buttons for gas and brake. Once you get the sensitivity of those down, you can really play rough out there, throwing your rig into a tough turn, cutting off a rival, and then speeding away while they suck hind teat. That's when Reckless Racing goes full tilt – mixing it up with a thick pack of rivals in tight turns before threading the needle and making your getaway.
There are three race modes here: a basic multi-lap race for the finish against rivals, a package delivery showdown with interference, and time trials to get from A to B as fast as a moonshine bootlegger rolling down Thunder Road. Again, all three are nicely put together. I prefer the basic races and the package delivery, though, because I think Reckless is more fun when you mix it up with other racers.
Speaking of which, Reckless features online play over WiFi. However, this is a very curious exclusion: no local multiplayer. This doesn't rattle me very much because I don't play a lot of iPhone games against friends in the same room, but I know that many mobile gamers like having this feature.
Reckless Racing also supports Retina display with really sharp visuals. At no point while racing did I experience any hiccups or crashes – everything was smooth.
