Rumored Valve Hardware Might Never Leave Lab

By Mitchell Bowman | PC News | Apr 14, 2012 12:26 PM | Comment

Rumors swirled earlier this week when it was discovered that Valve is hiring some hardware experts, but it looks like it may have been much ado about nothing. Valve developer Michael Abrash has revealed what it is that Valve is working on hardware-wise, but makes it very clear that this project may never see the light of day. Read More »

EA Denies Warhammer-esque Tanks Were to be Used in Timberium Alliances

By Mitchell Bowman | PC News | Apr 14, 2012 11:40 AM | Comment

Earlier this week, there were some images doing the rounds of what appeared to be concept art for Command and Conquer: Tiberium Alliances. The vehicles depicted in this concept art were -- tread-for-tread, cannon-for-cannon -- the same as some famous Warhammer 40,000 tanks, and the Internet was not pleased about it. Now EA has something to say about it. Read More »

Preview: Elemental: Fallen Enchantress

By Dan Stapleton | PC Articles | Apr 13, 2012 7:21 PM | Comment

Elemental: Fallen Enchantress is an apology in game form. After the disastrous launch of Elemental: War of Magic humbled and embarrassed Stardock in 2010, CEO Brad Wardell declared that Stardock would make things right with its fans, promising everyone who bought it would get a new and improved Elemental for free. That's what he came around to show off, and it definitely does appear to be a huge improvement -- gamers who took a chance on Elemental and got burned may finally get their money's worth this fall. Is Star Wars: The Old Republic's 1.2 Patch Enough?

By Leif Johnson | PC Articles | Apr 13, 2012 5:11 PM | Comment

Even though I've enjoyed it since launch, I was about ready to give up on Star Wars: The Old Republic. No one actually declared they were leaving, but player by player, my little guild had dwindled down to nothing as members became dissatisfied with the experience at level 50. Finally, a little under two weeks ago, even I just stopped logging in and hoped that Patch 1.2 would make everything better. Now, having experienced the new patch content that launched yesterday, I do like what I see, but worry that it will only provide a short respite from the same larger issues. Read More »

Free Agent: Drakensang Online

By Nathan Grayson | PC Articles | Apr 13, 2012 3:45 PM | Comment

After a quick, no-frills character creation process, Drakensang Online dropped me in the middle of some random forest. I'd never laid eyes on it before, yet somehow I felt right at home. The red and blue health orbs, the simple skill interface, the overwhelming, almost primal urge to click-click-click everything to death-death-death -- this apple didn't fall far from the Diablo tree. Small pop-ups offered brief tutorials, but I waved them away. Everything is in its proper Diablo-ish place, and my Spellweaver was flinging fireworks at a race of gremlins ostensibly made out of paiper mache in seconds. Read More »

SkyrimProvement: Mods that Make Skyrim's Magic Feel Magical Again

By Phill Cameron | PC Articles | Apr 13, 2012 1:30 PM | Comment

Throwing fireballs and lightning bolts from your hands in Skyrim is always good, but even the world's greatest magic show gets old after you've seen it a thousand times or so. It's time for gaming's greatest magicians, modders, to alter physics, conjure items out of thin air, and basically just screw with every system they can get their hands on to make Skyrim's mages the mystical powerhouses we all want to play. Once you've expanded both the repertoire of spells available and the power of the spells that already exist, magic is a much more viable and impressive option. Read More »

Let's Go Deer Hunting in Assassin's Creed 3

By Mitchell Bowman | PC News | Apr 13, 2012 12:56 PM | Comment

Some more Assassin's Creed screenshots "leaked" today, showing our cloaked protagonist stalking some unsuspecting deer through a snowy forest. It's further evidence of Ubisoft's promise: in addition to murdering various guards, heralds and beggars, you'll now be able to murder some forest-dwelling animals as well. Read More »

The big 1.2 update went live yesterday with no obvious issues, but it has since pulled SWTOR to the dark side. Read More »

The Earth Takes a Hit in the Firefall Story Trailer

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Apr 13, 2012 9:08 AM | Comment

A few big takeaways from the stunning Firefall CGI story trailer: 1) All space ships should be designed with a nod to the Space Battleship Argo from Star Blazers. Let's get to work on that, Virgin Galactic, shall we? 2) We're on Earth! Never realized Firefall wasn't set in a sci-fi world far, far away. 3) Faster Than Light travel isn't anywhere near as easy as the crew of the Enterprise makes it out to be. Read More »
