The Walking Dead: The Game is a downloadable episodic game series from Telltale Games, based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman. It will be available as a downloadable title on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, PC, Mac, and iPad, with the first episode releasing sometime in April 2012. There are currently five episodes scheduled for the series.

The game will not follow the plot of the comics or the The Walking Dead AMC TV Series, but will take place in the comic book universe. The Walking Dead: The Game episodes begin during the initial infection period, when the main character from the comic series, Rick Grimes, is in a coma. [1]

This page discusses details like characters and locations in The Walking Dead: The Game, as revealed in trailers and in interviews with developers. These are NOT considered spoilers, and are not treated as such. In cases where plot-related spoilers from the comics or television are mentioned, a spoiler tag is used.

What's the gameplay like?

The Walking Dead: The Game's developer, Telltale Games, has made a series of contemporary adventure games with subjects including Back to the Future and Jurassic Park. These games aren't based on action, but instead decision-making and quick-time events. The Walking Dead: The Game will feature similar gameplay: You can walk around 3D environments freely, but much of the action involves making choices or finding interactive objects in cutscenes.

The Walking Dead Gameplay Trailer

Walking Dead writer and story consultant Gary Whitta mentioned in an interview on Up at Noon that players would be making many "agonizing moral choices" and face some "bleak, very sick stuff" in the course of the game. He went on to describe The Walking Dead as a classic adventure game with a "little less action, a little more story" than Telltale's previous games. [2]

The choices you make will have obvious ramifications, much like the Mass Effect series. For instance, a decision to save a character will result in his or her appearance in a later episode. [3]

Who are the main characters?

Rick Grimes will not be the protagonist of the The Walking Dead: The Game. The game will primarily focus on new characters, with a few characters that overlap with the comics. The main character, Lee Everett, is in many ways the opposite of Rick -- While Rick is sheriff, Lee is a convict.

Lee Everett

The main character of The Walking Dead: The Game, Lee's family seems to be involved in the medical field and owns a pharmacy. He is in a police car on his way to prison (the very same from the books and movie!) at the start of the game, convicted of killing his wife. He breaks free at the start of Episode 1. [4] This small girl is the subject of one of the teaser trailers. She hides in a treehouse to avoid the zombie onslaught. This is where Lee Everett finds her.

Characters from the Comic Series

The Walking Dead: The Game is set in the comic book universe and, though there are some shared characters between the two universes, Gary Whitta confirmed that "the video game version ... is based on the comics and has no connection to the TV series." So far, several characters from the comics have been confirmed for the series (and some should be familiar to people that only watch the show).

  • Glenn - A main character from both the books and TV series, Glenn will be part of Everett's group. He becomes a talented runner, who enters Atlanta for supplies. Glenn appears in Episode 1, but joins Rick's group soon after.
  • Lilly - Another character from the comic books confirmed to appear in The Walking Dead: The Game, Lilly appeared as a soldier of The Governor in the comic books, and

  • Hershel Greene - The owner of Hershel's Farm, a haven for survivors in both the books and TV series, Hershel appears in The Walking Dead: The Game as well. His farm is pictured in a trailer.
  • Rick Grimes - The protagonist of the books and TV series will appear in the game, according to Playing Dead Episode 1 [5].

Where will The Walking Dead: The Game take place?

The Walking Dead: The Game takes place in the same universe as The Walking Dead books, "in the same time and place, in and around Atlanta" according to Gary Whitta.[6]

Several locations have been confirmed in the trailers, including some that appear in the books.
