Director David Slade has had a pretty eclectic career, going from Hard Candy to 30 Days of Night to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Now, Slade is set to take on the world's most famous cannibal, as he signs on to direct the first episode to Hannibal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies), Hannibal focuses on Hannibal Lecter as a younger man, working alongside Will Graham, the FBI agent destined to eventually figure out Lecter's dark secret and capture him. Hugh Dancy (The Big C) has been cast as Graham, but the coveted role of Hannibal has yet to be filled. NBC has picked Hannibal up straight to series, with a 13-episode commitment.

This will be the second NBC pilot Slade has directed in the past year. His previous pilot, for Awake, was tremendously acclaimed - getting a perfect 10 score here at IGN TV from Matt Fowler. Slade also directed an episode of Breaking Bad, "Open House," last year.

Slade is attached to direct 20th Century Fox's next Daredevil movie, expected to be a total reboot of the Ben Affleck incarnation.
