Rovio's video game sensation Angry Birds will flock to the small screen well before it makes it into a theater near you.

Nick Dorra, Rovio's head of animation, gave the keynote speech at this year's MIPTV Media Market event during which time he spoke about bringing Angry Birds to life on both the big and small screens. "It's about telling more engaging stories… and deeper thoughts, deeper feelings of the characters, such as why are they always angry?," said Dorra of the narrative opportunities in bringing the titular avians into other media.

We've known that an animated series was in the works, but Dorra reiterated Rovio's broader ambitions for it, calling the series "a great way to connect with our existing fans, to give them more and keep them engaged, but also for acquiring new fans. Not everyone might want to play the game."

As for the animated feature film, Dorra called for patience. He said, "It's in development, but it won't be out in 2013 or 2014. You'll have to bide your time and first watch all of our shorts!"
