Everything but the skins can be unlocked with in-game XP, but gold is still an option if you're not the type that likes to wait.
If you're interested in saving a few bucks GOG.com and the Almost Human web page have a pretty sweet pre-order promo going on. Pre-ordering gets you the full game and future updates for $11.99, otherwise the launch day price is expected to be $14.99
The developer that gave us Firefox, Thunderbird, and Filezilla have strayed into the more entertaining genre of application development by making a game. Yes, Mozilla has given us BrowserQuest. A free little browser-based MMO that lets you RPG all over the place; you'll find yourself killing monsters, earning achievements, and scoring some phat loot. Everything is auto saved, and if you die, you can easily respawn with no real loss. The entire game is controlled by left clicking the contextual game world. It isn't very deep; there is no item inventory, no real quest except 'kill the final boss', and no xp or leveling to speak of. It is a fun distraction however, and in the vein of ROTMG, is a satisfying browser adventure.
Happy Tuesday everyone. I haven't had a chance to play many games this last week, but I have been able to keep up on some of the news. One thing to highlight is the announcement of the Nephalem Valor Buff in Diablo III. In Diablo 2 the most efficient way of gaining loot was to do boss runs. Blizzard saw this as a problem, and to fix it, made it so that you'd get the best chance of finding great gear from killing rare champion packs, not bosses. This met their goal of encouraging players to play through more of the game while doing runs instead of extremely limited smaller sections, but made bosses seem lack luster. Shouldn't the most powerful and cool enemies in the entire game give you the best gear?
To fix this problem, Blizzard added the Nehalem Valor Buff. Now when you kill a pack of champion monsters, you'll gain a buff that grants you increased magic find and gold find. Additionally, this buff will stack a number of times, and when you do make your way to that act-end-boss, you'll not only have the increases to MF and GF, but the boss will also drop more loot. All in all I think this sounds like a pretty promising system as it encourages you to see more of the game in your runs, but also doesn't neuter bosses’ loot drops too much either.
In other news, I now want a game that features bearodactyl enemies... or better yet, playable characters....
Much like the launch of the 500 series NVIDIA's pre-release documentation had some pretty big claims. As most PC gamers know by now, what's on paper doesn't always match real-world performance. Once again though NVIDIA seems to have delivered, at least based on impressions with a single reference GTX 680. The numbers are definitely matching up.
Not only is the GTX 680 considerably more powerful than the GTX 580, but it's also more functional, consumes less power, generates less heat, and emits less fan noise than the Fermi generation of cards. If you're looking for some highlights on functionality, well, among other things the performance-per-watt ratio has nearly doubled thanks to Kepler, a single GTX 680 card can now power as many as four displays, GPU Boost enhances performance without any overclocking needed, and NVIDIA's "Adaptive VSync" seeks to do away with VSync stutters.
In some preliminary testing we've seen a single GTX 680 either beat or come close to matching a pair of GTX 580s in SLI at both single display, and surround resolutions. The GTX 680 also consistently beats a single GTX 590 in benchmark testing, suggesting that a pair of Kepler based GTX 680s may potentially outclass a GTX 590 SLI setup which taps into four Fermi cores.
We're told that the MSRP for the NVIDIA GTX 680 is $499 for a base model, however many of the OEMs like EVGA and ASUS tend to offer tweaked versions at a slightly higher price point. More details to come, but in the mean time hit up your retailers before the top brands start selling out!
If things don't work out for Murphy this time around then the franchise will most likely be shelved indefinitely. That's not what you want, is it?
Rumors have been flying rampantly around the internet today about an imminent announcement to finally see Dark Souls brought to the PC. Rich Bantegui tweeted "Check it out DARK SOULS fans - An announcement is coming......" And then this image was posted suggesting a possible April 18th release for the as of yet unannounced PC port.
It seems a pretty sure thing that the notorious franchise will be ported to the PC, but I guess we'll wait on the official announcement, and of course let you know if/when that becomes a reality.
Are any of you guys picking up Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai this Friday? Green Man Gaming has a pretty wicked pre-order sale price going for it, and since it's a Steamworks game the CD key that comes with the purchase plugs right into, you guessed it, Steam. It's definitely on my list of games to play, Creative Assembly has really managed to bring the Total War franchise to a much better place since Empire.
Anyways guys, that's about it for this update. Until we cross paths again, be excellent to each other.
