Another classic gaming franchise is (possibly) getting reborn thanks to Kickstarter. After negotiating for the rights, Jordan Weisman is working with his studio Harebrained Schemes to bring back Shadowrun. Weisman is a legendary designer, having created Shadowrun, as well as worked on MechWarrior, Mechcommander, Crimson Skies and more. The game, titled Shadowrun Returns, is billed as a, "graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game with deep story interaction, meaningful character development, and highly-contextual tactical combat."

Shadownrun is famous with fans for the way it combines fantasy tropes like magic, dwarves and elves with futuristic technology. Shadownrun was originally a pen & paper role playing game, but since its creation has had multiple video game treatments. Harebrained Schemes is adapting parts of Data East's Shadowrun game's conversation system for their game, weaving the mechanic into a new story written by a number of notable authors, including Michael A. Stackpole.

Prizes for contributing to the Kickstarter range from a digital copy of the game to a private table-top game of Shadowrun run by Mike Mulvihill, one of the creators of the universe. To learn more about the project, check out the game's official Kickstarter page.
