Bones lived up its childish and dirty pun-of-a-name this week as Player Under Pressure was a fully erect episode that played into every sexual reference known to man. The overt sexual overtones cannot be credited to any one player however, it really was a team effort; there was the hot sex in the broom closet caught on tape, courtesy of Hodgens and Angela, the ridiculous amounts of references to the 'members' of the basketball team, there was even an instance where a cockroach's hind legs were tainted blue after it walked over the genitals of a fallen player that got his cranium cracked before his other head popped. (I can't make this stuff up.) It really was quite the accomplishment to have so many overt references in a single episode and still make the 'suitable for young adults' rating.
I guess they just could not avoid making this episode as sexual as it was; how does one go to a university and dig around in the locker room of the basketball team and not come out with a few dirty things –like the clap? Again, I didn't make it up, this dated reference for gonorrhea as 'the clap' was used on numerous occasions by the has-been basketball player turned campus security guard. 'Chief Cutler' ends up as the villain of the episode, but who could blame the guy; he killed the all-star player when he caught him under the bleachers with his cheerleader daughter. Killing his was the only way to stop the endless cycle of players going south (pun intended) once their egos get bigger than their game.

Overall this episode still hit the mark when it came to the classic Booth-Brennan blissful awkwardness. Brennan made her normal 'clueless to pop culture' remarks and Booth made his normal angry face at her ignorance. Dr. Sweets was not included in this episode though, he must still be recovering from last week's breakup, hopefully he will be back next week to conduct a session between our favorite 'squint' and 'jock.'
This episode scores high on the scale, not because it was the most tantalizingly sexual episode yet, but because it was this and so much more: It was hot and clever. Even those that are easily shocked by sexual material could appreciate the cleverness of the writers and their willingness to step out of the box. This show would not make it if all episodes ran so close to the sleazy line, but a healthy does of innuendo and overt sexuality does a series good.
