It's November, and once again Mario is firmly on our minds here at IGN.
The plucky plumber has returned with a new platformer, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and that sound you hear is many a fan rejoicing, as they have found purpose once again. We're excited simply because the long-awaited Super Mario game is finally here, and our Many Looks Of... series continues, spotlighting our favorite Big N character.
All this excitement has got us reminiscing about the good old days. Given that one of Mario's defining traits is to gain new abilities through power-ups and costume changes, he's accumulated a lot of different looks over the years. We've decided to go through the years and take a look back at our favorite outfits. This isn't meant to be a completely comprehensive list, so don't whine if your favorite suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 doesn't make the cut. Just sit back and enjoy The Many Looks of Mario.

Why We Remember It: Several years before Super Mario Bros. appeared on every NES console in the world, Mario was hopping across platforms and smashing barrels in the guise of Jumpman. Not much has changed about the character since then. Sure, his overalls are a different color and he usually forgoes a hammer in favor of magical stars and flowers. Also, he talks now, and we sometimes wish he wouldn't. Otherwise, they're practically identical.
The Outfit: The Overalls
As Seen In: Every single Mario game ever
Why We Remember It: This is Mario's iconic look, and it's lasted him through several decades and countless platformers, sports games, racers, puzzlers, and random mash-ups. Take any one piece of this signature outfit, from the customary "M" hat to the sturdy blue overalls to the Mickey Mouse gloves, and people will instantly smile and think of Mario.
