Powers TV Series in Doubt at FX

Will Powers make it to FX? Right now, it's looking pretty shaky.

FX shot a pilot last year for Powers, based on the Brian Michael Bendis comic book, with a cast that included Jason Patric as Christian Walker, Lucy Punch as Deena Pilgrim and Bailee Madison as Calista. However, as FX president John Landgraf noted today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, "We didn't pick the pilot of Powers up."

However, they didn't completely throw out the project, asking writer Charles Eglee for rewrites, to retool aspects of the pilot they didn't feel were working. Landgraf said Eglee delivered a "Fairly substantial rewrite," that would require much of the pilot to be reshot. Said Landgraf, "Right now we're in the process of deciding whether to pull the trigger on that re-shoot."

Landgraf said he had huge respect for Bendis and his work on the comic book and that Powers is, "as difficult an adaptation as I've ever worked on," saying that if they did go forward with it, they wanted to get it right.
