With The Walking Dead underway for Season 2, AMC is using that series to launch a new show, Hell on Wheels, this weekend, which will premiere immediately after Walking Dead on Sunday, November 6th at 10pm ET/PT.
From writers Joe Gayton and Tony Gayton (Faster), Hell on Wheels is a western focusing on a former confederate soldier, Cullen Bohannan (Anson Mount), who takes a job helping to build the first Transcontinental Railroad. Cullen has his own dark history though and a specific quest for vengeance that goes well beyond his new day job. The cast also includes Colm Meany as Thomas 'Doc' Durant, the fearsome man behind the railroad project, and Common as a former slave who forms an uneasy working relationship with former slave owner Cullen.
With Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, AMC have turned into a formidable presence on cable TV, offering several distinct and much talked about series. However, the network isn't infallible, having also had the misfire of Rubicon, which was seen as something of a noble failure. And while The Killing was renewed, it was on the heels of a first season that had many frustrated with its storytelling techniques – and outright infuriated by its season finale.
That being said, a new AMC series is still a notable thing in the TV world, especially with them taking on such a distinctive genre, with a western. So will you be watching Hell on Wheels this weekend? Let us know below and look for our review of the premiere later this weekend.
