If you do the high jump trick press RIGHT on controller 2 while playing and jump into a pit, you do not die, and can walk around in it. Once in the pit, keep jumping in and out, and eventually your energy will drain but you will still be alive.
You are now invincible. Jump out of the pit and your enrgy will stay down... you do not need to keep holding RIGHT on C2.
Note: If you pick up any energy items or use an Energy Tank, you will no longer be invincible...and you can still die if you fall on spikes. If you have trouble using it, try releasing RIGHT once you are in the pit for a second.

Rush Jet (RJ) - If you don't want to fight Needle Man yet, but you want to get Rush Jet, then try defeating Shadow Man first. Then go to another robot master's stage. Bring up your weapons menu, and highlight the Shadow Blade (SH), and move the cursor right, highlighting Rush Jet's spot, and Rush Jet will appear, although the energy meter isn't there. Press start. Now all you have to do is fill up Rush Jet with weapon energy capsules you gain from enemies or find in the level. However, sometimes simply filling up Rush Jet may not cause it to register in your weapons menu. If this is the case, simply get some weapon energy for Rush Jet, activate it, jump on and stand on it, and let some of the energy drain down. Rush Jet should now be in your menu.
Rush Marine (RM) - You can also do the same trick to gain Rush Marine. Just defeat Spark Man, and in your weapons menu, highlight Spark Shock (SP), and move the cursor right, highlighting Rush Marine (RM). Note that Rush Marine still will not activate on land, so if you want it to register, you should be in a stage that has water in it, such as Gemini Man's stage(there's some shallow water at the beginning of the underground lake area in his stage).
For both these tricks, I recommend Gemini Man's level for quickly filling up and "gaining" Rush's forms. Just shoot tons of the eggs, and collect weapon capsules that the tadpoles drop.

At the beginning of Gemini Man’s stage, you’ll run leftward over many obstacles as you attempt to gain access to Gemini Man’s actual subterranean lair. At the far right end, you’ll run into Proto Man, who will destroy the entrance barrier for you so you can head on inside. But if you keep running to the right as soon as you run into him, you should be able to fall through the barrier as Proto Man shows up. You’ll scroll down to the screen below as Proto Man’s music continues to play. Thereafter, no music will play, and the only sounds you’ll hear are enemies and your own sounds. There will be no music from that point until you reach Gemini Man’s lair.

This code will freeze the enemy robot masters. First, let the robot master come to the ground, then wait for their energy to fill up completely. When the robot master begins to move, hold UP and A on controller 2. This will freeze the robot master where he is and you can shoot him at your leisure.
NOTE: Try to freeze the robot master when he is on the ground because neither person will be able to move but, Mega Man will be able to shoot.
At the end of the game, after you defeat Gamma, and you are in Dr. Light's lab, Dr. Light will say "...I wonder who brought you here..." just as Break Man's whistle theme begins. Just before Mega Man can teleport out of the lab, hold UP + A on controller two to freeze him in teleport phase. As long as you hold those buttons, and hold Mega Man there, you can listen to the WHOLE theme song.
When you defeat Break Man in the mini-stage, and teleport away, quickly hold UP + A on controller two between screens to freeze Mega Man just as he teleports into Dr. Light's lab. If you hold those buttons, and can work your fingers to hold UP/RIGHT + A on controller two, Mega Man will die and disappear, and Dr. Light will talk to himself with his usual "Oh No!" dialogue.
