The Crow Remake Moves Ahead

Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company have reached an out of court settlement regarding the lawsuit surrounding the planned remake of 1994's The Crow.

Variety relays the joint statement from the two companies: "The parties will continue to work on the film together as planned. In addition, Relativity Media has dismissed all of its claims against The Weinstein Company for any wrongdoing regarding the release and distribution of Nine, and The Weinstein Company has dismissed all of its claims against Relativity Media."

The Weinstein Company had filed in injunction last spring regarding Relativity's remake of the original film and specifically the distribution rights to the project. Relativity followed with a claim that TWC "intentionally masked its financial problems in order to induce Relativity to finance [the] musical Nine."

So now The Crow can go ahead, with 28 Weeks Later's Juan Carlos Fresnadillo currently onboard as director.

Update: Variety is now reporting that Before the Fall helmer F. Javier Gutierrez is replacing Juan Carlos Fresnadillo as the film's director.

Additionally, Deadline reports that Jesse Wigutow is in talks to script the film. The site says the writer has "Irreparable Harm set up at HBO Films, recently rewrote Robert Ludlum's The Osterman Weekend for Summit, and has Age Inappropriate with Offspring at Universal. He recently scripted a Steve McQueen biopic for Cross Creek's Brian Oliver, based on the book Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel."
