Resident Evil Revelations: No More Zombies
At least not so far. A closer look at the creatures in Capcom's next survival horror game.

As far as I can tell, there are no zombies in Resident Evil Revelations. Those of you demanding a more back-to-basics approach for this iteration of the series might be frustrated by that, but rest assured you have nothing to worry about. Revelations is packed with tons of freaky creatures that in many ways are better than their shambling, brain-eating counterparts. I love zombies as much as the next guy, but what Revelations features is pretty awesome.
Yesterday I bought you tons of footage highlighting the incredible environments and atmosphere of Resident Evil Revelations. Today's videos focus on some of the bio-organic weapons (BOWs) that stand in the way of Jill, Chris, Parker and more.
In place of zombies, the most common foe you'll run across in Revelations is the Ooze, a collection of pale, gelatinous monsters. These guys are just as mindless as the undead, but have the ability to flow like liquid, allowing them to emerge from grates, pipes and even laundry machines.
The versatile mobility of these BOWs not only makes them a huge threat, but maintains the tension in every single room. Even when you think you're safe, you'll be watching for any movement, anticipating a threat emerging from the shadows. In some ways these creations are better than zombies - they maintain the game's mood better than zombies ever did.
Just in case you think the Ooze look a bit too easy, check the above video out. You might have seen some of this in some trailers before, but it plays out before Jill's eyes as she continues to investigate the cruise ship, which is called the Queen Zenobia. Gross.
Ooze seem to be restricted to the ship itself. So far in my play through Revelations I haven't seen the creatures appear anywhere else. That actually serves the game well, ensuring the ship has an atmosphere unlike anything else in the game. In fact, when you're in the mountains or a skyscraper, you almost feel a sense of relief, knowing those haunting, shambling bastards are drifting somewhere on the ocean.
The next two clips are mildly spoilery in that it gives away the appearance of the first boss as well as some of the variations on the Ooze. You have been warned. Head to Page Two if you want to avoid that stuff.
This guy is the creeper that was calling out in one of the clips I posted yesterday. Check it out if you haven't. Anyway, you shoot the lock off that door and this guy busts out, and somehow all of the Ooze in the world seems to be summoned to his aid. You'll notice differences between these guys and the types you typically battle.
More from that same battle. Some of the new Ooze types will actually shoot projectiles at you. Some are far more physically powerful. And then, of course, there's the boss who is quite the dangerous entity. The actual fight is fairly straight forward, but it's tense and thrilling, as any boss fight should be.
Spoilers over, folks. Turn the page for some non-Ooze stuff.
