Skyrim is a fantasy world of magical lore and devastating mythical beasts -- but that doesn't mean it can't be realistic. For gamers who prefer their adventures as believable as possible, I've gathered up a collection of awesome mods that make Skyrim feel a little more like reality, including true-to-life physics, making eating chicken and naptime relevant, and a reason to close your bedroom door tightly while changing clothes, away from Lydia's peeping eyes.

Realistic Ragdolls and Force by dDefinder1

While flinging a hapless soul to his death off a cliff with an arrow is dramatic and amusing, the way force works in Skyrim sometimes feels comical. Realistic Ragdolls and Force not only adds realism to how arrows and attacks affect bodies, it also changes the ragdoll effect of humanoids and creatures to bring them more in line with what you'd expect a real body to do when smashed to a pulp by your friendly neighborhood giant.

I never get tired of watching people fall down. This could be a problem.

Powerful and Craftable Skooma by Kudduffah

A dash of Moon Sugar, sprig of Nightshade, and bunch of Jazbay Grapes, and you're on the way to feeding your illicit Skooma habits. Powerful and Craftable Skooma lets any Dovahkiin create the stamina-boosting Skooma (or it's ugly uncle Double-Distilled Skooma) at a cooking pot. Beware though: This mod also adds a drugged-up side effect to Skooma, borrowed from Sleeping Tree Sap, that can make your battles against mud crabs much harder then they need to be.

At least if I actually hit them, it's gonna hurt!

Equipable Map by Kellpossible

Pulling up the GPS-style Skyrim map is a bit of technological trickery that doesn't jive with Skyrim's fantasy look and feel. Kellpossible thought so as well, and so created an Equipable Map which can be crafted from three leathers. The map itself looks lovely, and I'm looking forward to the future features in the works, including different maps scattered throughout the game and sold at city general stores, with higher-quality versions being available at a higher cost.

GPS is for wimps. Remember your Dovahkiin Scout training!

Filling Food and Restful Sleep by Punxdog

My Skyrim character went without sleep for weeks, and only ate food when she had four hitpoints left -- at which point I'd ram 40 cheesewheels down her gullet. There's a lot of room for increased realism here, and Filling food and Restful Sleep steps up to add it. This mod makes both rest and grub vital to regenerating your health. Food types matter as well, (for example, you'll need protein and cheese for your brain/magicka) so you'll learn to enjoy a specific diet. Mine will still mostly be sweet rolls.

All of this food everywhere suddenly matters.

Natural Nudes & Better Males by Paperninja & Chris57 & FavoredSoul
[Warning: NSFW!]

We're talking about realism here, so we have to address the question of what really happens when you take off your pants? Natural Nudes, and its male counterpart Better Males, reveal the truth: naughty bits everywhere. Now you'll think twice about how much you want to loot that hideous Orc bandit's armor, knowing what you'll see when you remove it, and you'll be able to streak naked down the streets of Whiterun in all your glory. Merchants and guards may pretend not to notice, but we all know what they saw. (This one obviously isn't for kids, but then again, neither is Skyrim. Or reality itself, for that matter.)

"What? Ain't nuthin' but what the All-Maker gave me!"

Even more mods of all kinds are available in the Skyrim Mods section of FilePlanet. Approval has been given by all mod authors for FilePlanet hosting. You can find their respective pages here: Realistic Ragdolls and Force, Powerful and Craftable Skooma, Equipable Map, Filling Food and Restful Sleep, Natural Nudes, and Better Males.

Spy Guy says: I wished Skyrim had a built-in hardcore mode like Fallout: New Vegas, but it looks like modders are on the job -- and they're off to a great start. What other kinds of tweaks would you like to see to make Skyrim adventures even more real?
