Everyone loves Free Comic Book Day. The first Saturday in May, year after year, is a day when people flock to their local comic book store for great deals and -- obviously -- free comics. While the output of said free comics from various publishers usually range from reprints to recap books to preview issues to wholly original content, Archaia looks to be taking things up a notch in 2012.
For May 5, 2012's FCBD offering, Archaia will offer Mouse Guard, Labyrinth and Other Stories in a hardcover graphic novel format. Clocking in a 48-pages in a 6"x9" format, the book will be full color with brand new stories from some of their most popular and anticipated works, including Mouse Guard, Labyrinth, Dapper Men Cow Boy, Rust, and Cursed Pirate Girl.
"We've offered single issues for past Free Comic Book Days but Archaia's specialty is producing beautiful, hardbound collections," said Archaia President and CEO PJ Bickett. "Offering a hardcover book for Free Comic Book Day is our way of helping to drive more potential customers to comic book stores on what has historically been their busiest sales day of the year. But it's also a way to educate readers on what Archaia is all about: high-quality graphic novel collections of stories they can't get anywhere else."
There's no better price tag than free, but getting a beautiful hardbound book with all original content is almost too good to be true. I realize it's not even 2012 yet, but get pumped for Free Comic Book Day!
