Final Fight Review (iOS)
Play Haggar. Wreck fools. Eat food off the ground.

What is it?
Capcom has finally released an iOS port of their classic side-scrolling beat 'em up Final Fight. The game became an instant smash-hit when it was released back in 1990. It gobbled up an ungodly number of quarters for Capcom in arcades across the US, Japan and other territories, and won a legion of critical awards as well. On iOS the game plays out just like it did 21 years ago: players must mash Attack, Jump, and Special to fight their way through six stages infested with members of the Mad Gear gang. Ah, simple arcade pleasures.
Did we like it?
The "problem" with Final Fight is that the game is exactly what you would expect it to be. Haggar suplexes fools. The blatantly Andre the Giant-inspired enemy "Andore" pops up frequently. There are cheap deaths aplenty. It's fun reliving these classic memories and experiencing the urban stages again, but like many arcade ports, Final Fight suffers from a lack of content. The entire game can be beaten in under an hour. After that the only thing left to do is to try and go through the game with fewer and fewer continues. The port itself is high-quality, and I never struggled with the virtual button controls.
Should you buy it?
I enjoyed Final Fight as a youngster, but the truth is there has always been better arcade beat 'em ups. Including lesser-known titles from Capcom itself like Battle Circuit or Captain Commando. Gamers familiar with Final Fight that simply want to relive their arcade glory days can safely pick up this iOS port. I didn't encounter any major problems. But gamers simply looking for a fun iOS diversion would be wise to look elsewhere. There are plenty of titles with more depth and far fewer cheap deaths.
