Skyrim UI Mod
Said To Boost Performance
Earlier today there was some gossip going about on how BestBuy.com changed the release dates shown on their Diablo 3 product pages to February 1st, 2012. Then there were reports that a Best Buy store put up a promotional end cap for Diablo III with a digital countdown timer leading to February 1st.
Well, the guys at Joystiq received a copy of the very same picture that was posted on the Diablo III forums, and verified via a phone call to a Rochester, Minnesota Best Buy store that the Diablo 3 promotional display does indeed exist. The Best Buy employee that spoke with Joystiq also confirmed that their store would be doing a midnight launch for Diablo III on February 1st, 2012.
We decided to reach out to a store off of Geary Blvd in San Francisco, CA, and spoke with a video games department sales rep that confirmed that the store systems had been updated with a February 1st, 2012 release date for Diablo III. Unfortunately however promotional materials like the one captured in the photo spreading about the internet had not been put up yet according to the employee.
Current listings on the Best Buy website for both the standard and collector's edition of Diablo III now reflect the February 1st release date. On the other side of the pond Gameplay now lists a February 3rd release date for UK customers. Considering the date changes on the Diablo III product pages at major retailers in both the US and UK, along with the photo and confirmation on the promotional end cap at the Minnesota Best Buy, it's looking like a February release date is close to being a sure thing.
We've sent a note off to our contacts at Blizzard, and will update this post once we hear something more official.
Update: Target.com lists a February 7th release date.
Are you a passionate gamer with a deep understanding of social media and online communities? Microsoft Game Studios is looking for a web-savvy community manager with editorial and PR experience to drive engaging and innovative end-to-end user experiences for an exciting new online PC Real Time Strategy game. As a web and community PM, you will work closely with Team leads, Marketing and PR on strategic initiatives within our communities, and help evangelize our Game’s story to the world.
Exciting? New? Intriguing. Is it going to be a free to play endeavour, a more serious experience or will we see neither hide nor hair of this mythical RTS ever again? Place your bets!
"You play Derek Badger, unflappable Yorkshireman, who stumbles upon a strange underground kingdom and gets caught up in a conflict between two mysterious magical races. I’m making it in Game Maker because current generation technology frightens me."
In the grand scheme of the game, I've only just begun; there are one or two boats darting to and fro exchanging various necessities with other islands that yield things mine cannot, but that's where it ends. The intensely mundane choreography of fastidiously organised trade routes is not yet upon me, but it will be soon. AW YEAH!
A new Indie Royale bundle arrived this week, too. So far I've had a small bite of Max & The Magic Marker, a super neat game that fits nicely into the "draw your own platform with an orange pen" genre. After spending a while in Trine 2, in which a mere squiggle conjures forth a perfect cube, my attempted squares in this game have left rather a lot to be desired. Max, will you please climb on top of this mangled scribble (I'm sorry).
Would you like a ride on an elevator of death?
The fantastic indie title 'The Binding of Isaac' from the creator of Super Meat Boy will be getting an expansion in the foreseeable future with the "Wrath of the Lamb'. Edmund McMillen has been teasing tidbits on twitter lately. Among the tidbits teased, there will be an expansion called "Wrath of the Lamb", it will up the item count by 50%, add a new item category - the trinket, will only cost $3, and will be released 'when it's done'. with McMillen postulating that it will be at least a few months.
TruePCGaming - N/A
The most nauseating thing about this game isn’t the insipid attempt at black humor, the repetitive and laborious mission objectives, or the juvenile angst that frames the story. It’s the unfinished state of the final build. You hear birds chirping and wind blowing indoors. Unseen arcade machines beep and boop in barnyard haystacks. The cover system plants Dude in the path of bullets. Cutscenes don’t correspond with your actions in-game. Chunks of building architecture clip into thin air. A weird “Node graph out of date” message appears every time after loading. Some objectives didn’t complete until I re-started the mission. At one point mid-game, the game was crashing to desktop on a minute-by-minute basis until I painfully completed the level by attrition.
GameSpy - 1/5
The festering, maggot-filled cherry atop Postal III's frustration sundae, however, is its writhing mass of technical issues. I eventually gave up trying to count the number of times the game crashed on me (after I smashed my abacus in a fit of rage). Frequent loading screens that regularly hit the 30-second mark only made each restart all the more painful. And then there were the downright strange glitches, like the one that reversed my controls (backward = forward, etc) and turned my character into a glue-coated homing missile for the nearest corner -- where he'd stay until I indiscriminately fired my guns to jiggle him loose. This was not an uncommon occurrence.
IGN - 5.5/10
My hat goes off to Running With Scissors to be ballsy enough to make yet another game that's completely unapologetic in its treatment of risque and taboo subject matter. It's hard to imagine anyone not being offended by Postal III. That's a big selling point for some folks, but the uninspired gameplay and serious technical glitches all but kill this dark, occasionally humorous, and extreme exercise in freedom of expression.
Protip: Quantity has a quality all its own.
During 2011 the platform grew to offer over 1,800 games to over 40 million accounts. Year-over-year unit sales increased by more than 100% for the seventh straight year, and during the 2011 Holiday Sale Steam's simultaneous user number eclipsed the 5 million player mark.
Meanwhile Steam doubled the amount of content delivered in 2011 vs. 2010, serving over 780 Petabytes of data to gamers around the world. To meet the increasing demand for games and services on the platform, the Steam infrastructure more than doubled its service capacity and a new content delivery architecture was deployed to improve user download rates.
Over 14.5 mil copies of Steamworks games were registered during the year, a 67% increase over 2010. Steamworks titles shipped during 2011 include The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution , and more. Since the suite of services was released three years ago, Steamworks has shipped in over 400 games.
"Steam and Steamworks continues to evolve to keep up with customer and developer demands for new services and content," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Support for in-game item trading prompted the exchange of over 19 million items. Support for Free to Play (FTP) games, launched in June, has spurred the launch of 18 FTP titles on Steam, with more coming in 2012. Looking forward, we are preparing for the launch of the Big Picture UI mode, which will allow gamers to experience Steam on large displays and in more rooms of the house."

At the time the hackings appeared to be related to FIFA 11. Accounts were accessed and used to purchase anywhere from 4,000 to 12,000 MS points; and often some points were used to purchase FIFA 11 and FIFA DLC. Upon contacting XBLA support, gamers were told that their account would be put on hold for up to 30 days in order to investigate the fraudulent activity on their accounts.
This is where it got even more fun. Some people remained on hold for months, others were told to create new accounts and the whole ordeal was nothing but a clusterf**** of lies and general BS. In repeated statements, MS refused to acknowledge any sort of issue.
There is an interesting post on Neogaf today, outlining some updates since we last reported the issue. On person actually managed to speak to the guy who had her account, during which it was revealed that he had purchased the account on a site called "TradeTang". We don't recommend that you visit the site in case it's NSFW or contains harmful material.
Head over to Neogaf to read some excerpts from the dodgy site to see how your stolen XBLA points are being sold.

Sometime just after midnight, the Generalissimoist’s bunker was attacked by Jube’s dogs. Using their infernal psychic powers, the canines were able to hit the bunker with about 5,000 newtons of force from over 1100 miles away. The attack threw the Generalissimoist from his chair and into his bookcase causing untold dollars in damages and, possibly, a sprained wrist.
Jube’s dogs are boasting too soon. They are only showing me what I must do. I do not care if they gloat today. The victor will not be the one who reaches too soon for the laurel wreath, but rather he who bravely and loyally does his duty, who is not shaken by the storm, who at the end of the war is still standing upright on the battlefield. Plus, I have a Volar Wrist splint.
