The Peanuts gang is back in this comic featuring three classic Charles Schulz strips and three brand new tales by Vicki Scott and Shane Houghton, respectively. The classic Schulz style can be found throughout to the point where a reader might be unsure who wrote which one, which is a mighty compliment for both Scott and Houghton. This comic features Lucy van Pelt heavily, and would be a great pickup for any fan of hers, or even someone new to Peanuts looking for a light-hearted laugh from a grumpy little girl.
Lucy is always up to no good, and here readers can witness her using the other characters to help her get a song out of her head and get an extra nickel in her can, as well as teach the reader how to draw Charlie Brown. The latter strip by Scott is by far the funniest as Lucy tells the reader to give Charlie a big fat head, a fat neck, and sausage-y looking fingers. The result is actually an easy-to-follow tutorial peppered with some silly commentary about Charlie.
Scott writes and pencils both of her comics, and each one looks great with the same whimsy and energy that any Schulz cartoon would have. Matt Whitlock pencils the "Cat Cash" story, and while his drawings are solid, he strays a little too far with Snoopy to the point where he almost does not resemble the famed dog anymore. All in all, everyone involved in this issue put forth a great product that remembers the classics while respectfully creating something new and fun.
