Scorpion King 3 Begins

At long last, the third installment of The Mummy's popular spin-off, The Scorpion King, is in production in the wonderful land of Thailand. While the filming is to be had at the moment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment is prepping the DVD release of the film, slated for an early 2012 release – to be expected, given the fact that the movie just began its shoot on October 29, 2010. The new action-adventure flick will be a part of Universal Studios Home Entertainment's new DVD Originals line-up.

The Scorpion King 3 centers around Mathayus, a man who was once the ruler of an ancient empire who has been thrust from the role after losing his queen and being chased away by a terrible plague. He finds trust as an assassin-for-hire in the hands of Horus, a man of great power and wealth, who gives him a perilous job: protect King Ramusan from an impending attack in exchange for the love of Ramusan's daughter.

"The Scorpion King 3 raises the bar for DVD Originals, encompassing the most stunning action, visual effects and production values to date, including a cast of over 400 warriors and elephants," said Glenn Ross, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Home Entertainment Productions. "The Scorpion King saga, with its compelling characters, engaging storyline and non-stop action, is a perfect complement to Universal's hugely popular and successful DVD Originals offerings."

The movie features a robust cast, including the likes of Victor Webster in the lead role, with supporting nods to Ron Perlman, Billy Zane, MMA sensation Kimbo Slice, WWE superstar Dave Bautista, Krystal Vee, Temuera Morrison, and many others.
